Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

The Phoenix Arises!

By: Graham Howes
Date: 23/02/2003

THERE has been much talk on the message board over our 'little Grimsby' tag we seem to have got ourselves into. I believe that this demon has been with the club for nearly 60 years.

On occasions we have risen from the ashes like a phoenix only for the haunting of ghosts to re-appear and douse the flames. Ever since, we have accepted our demise from the top flight and allowed ourselves to drift down the leagues into a deep deep coma.

We now seem to accept that we are inferior in every single part of the club and competition. The fight seems to have gone from what was a once proud club who rubbed shoulders with the great sides and competed, and in most cases, won.

Why? Because Grimsby where born fighters, we had a never say die attitude and never took second best or even had a thought that we were inferior. That is the key. We should not accept we are inferior to anyone. We are Town Super Grimsby.

Grimsby from this day should ban "we aim only to survive" and cast off the shackles of Little Grimsby mentality. Strive to improve every season and instil a mental toughness that we will prevail, we will not be beaten because we are Super Grimsby.

Players can succeed; Groves needs to be on their case to dispel our mentality problems. Together the club can unite, move forward and show everyone that we are a side to fear. Never again should our club surrender; we should fight from the start until the bitter end. Never go into games thinking we are inferior to be beaten before a ball is kicked in anger. It's time to dispel those demons forever.
