Asset Or Ass?

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 06/07/2003

CLIVE Platt, the man Paul Groves is waiting for has caused a bit of a stir at Notts County. Platt was allegedly intending to sign for the Magpies at commencement of training after jilting Bristol Rovers who were expecting him to sign with them.

However, Platt failed to turn up for training with Notts County and reports are that he has not been in touch with them because he is involved in talks with Grimsby Town. Paul Groves has concluded those talks and is now awaiting a response from Platt.

The independent Notts County website, 'Notts County Mad' have been having a closer look at Platt and their article is very interesting. We reproduce it here;

Article

Clive Platt, the striker who failed to report for training yesterday for the Magpies is now supposedly in talks with Grimsby Town. This is after he rejected Bristol Rovers for Notts, and now, amazingly he could well change his mind again and sign for the Mariners.

Reports from Radio Humberside are suggesting that Clive Platt, the undecided striker from Rochdale is now set to sign for Grimsby Town. This is after the 'big man' rejected third division strugglers Bristol Rovers for Notts.

I will imagine that Bill Dearden will be getting a little impatient if Grimsby snatch Platt from the hands of County, and who can blame him?

Platt was a highly controversial figure at Rochdale last season. Alan Wilson, who runs a Rochdale website answered a short series of questions on the vague forward, exclusively to Notts County MAD...

Is Clive good enough for Division Two?

No he's not good enough for Div 2, didn't you see him on telly v Wolves in the cup - atrocious!

Steve Parkin may be coming to Notts as an assistant. Should that improve Clive as a player?

Parkin will be an asset, Platt will be an ass.

What are Clive's strengths?

His strength is that he runs around a lot.

What are Clive's weaknesses?

His weaknesses are too many to mention but for starters how about, scared of the ball, can't shoot, can't tackle.

Anything Else?

He has all the attributes required for a successful target man, except maybe one that springs to mind…..
