Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

Shirts, Trains And Stuff!

GRIMSBY Town's shirt sponsor Jarvis, have suffered a severe blow today with the news that Network Rail will take its three contracts and 3,500 staff back "in house", including the work on the East Coast Main Line on which Potters Bar station is situated.

Jarvis were responsible for maintaining the section of track south of Potters Bar station, where seven people died in May last year and another 76 people were injured when a train derailed. Investigations into the accident are still going on.

Jarvis is unfortunate to seem to be always in the news for controversial reasons and recently admitted that they could be responsible for a derailment on a section of line near Kings Cross and were recently in strife over health and safety regulations.

Even their Mariners shirt sponsorship was clouded in mystery when the person responsible for the deal suddenly disappeared with rumours that the company were unaware of the sponsorship and no company rep turned up at the press launch with excuses that 'traffic jams' were the reason.

Shortly after that, club chairman Peter Furneaux, had meetings with Jarvis in York, later proclaiming that "the sponsorship was never in doubt".

Earlier this year Jarvis announced good profits from its rail maintenance division and this decision by Network Rail will be a financial blow.

Not too severe to affect the Mariners sponsorship one would hope.
