Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

What A Farce!

AFTER reading Billo’s piece about the re-branding of the Football League, I wonder how much of the re-branding is down to the pressure of the First Division clubs wanting more says in ALL Football League matters?

There must be a hidden agenda by them to get their own way as they've got a gold mine waiting for them if they get lucky enough to be called The Premier League. What they don't realise is that by them doing this they ARE going to force more of gap between themselves and the other two divisions, no matter how the Football League spin this idea.

It says a lot of the Football League when they let Grimsby Town down with the parachute payment debacle and then let the First Division have their own director running that part of the Football League. Why didn't they do this for the other two divisions then ALL the clubs will look at least they are being treated equally?

Will the re-branding help the lower divisions or will they be left to their own devices like most supporters think is going on now? It's ok having a high profile face running the Football League but is he up to the job? We all know he’s an ex-Tory party chairman, so will be very good spinning things to make them look good, but this in the end only superficially papers over the cracks, and ultimately these cracks become bigger and harder to mend.

With hardly any money in the game due to the Football League mismanagement of the ITV Digital deal, that they can afford to get an agency in to doing this to me is just sticking two fingers up at the financially struggling clubs like Notts County. Also I wonder how much help these struggling clubs get off the Football League as in all matters they've got to have some input and we all live in hope about this!

When the re-branding starts at the start of next season we all can see if it changes how supporters perceive what the lower leagues are all about. With Grimsby Town loitering between Division 2 and 3 this season, I hope this new idea by the FL will help us, and actually help the divide between the lower echelons of our beloved Football League.
