Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

Stan Goes Walkies!

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 31/10/2004

ON-LOAN striker Ashley Sestanovich walked out of the club on Saturday afternoon shortly after it was revealed that the Blade was to feature in the match against Swansea only as a substitute.

Speaking to Radio Humberside after the match Town boss Russell Slade revealed 'Stan' had driven away from Blundell Park without talking to anyone about his departure.

Slade also said that he was "approachable" and hoped that if any players had a problem with anything at the club then his "door was always open".

The Mariners were forced to name rookie 'keeper Paul Fraser as a substitute in Sestanovich's place.

It is unclear yet as to whether the disagreement cam be patched up, or whether playmaker Stan will ever kick a ball in a Grimsby shirt again.

This what Slade is reported to have said:

"Yes, there was a problem with Ashley before the game."

"He wasn't really up to being a substitute. So you know, he decided to go home."

"I don't know his reasons, but I suspect that was it. So I must talk to him as soon as I possible can, or more likely that he talks to me. Because we can't tolerate that."

"Well I don't know how to deal with it yet. I need to speak to him first. He is a reasonable chap and if anyone is ever unhappy I am approachable. My door is always open and my phone is always on. So you know if he's got a problem, then he should come to us."

"But he let himself down today, he let his team mates down, he certainly let me down and he let the football club down through his absence."

"As I say we have got to talk to him and then see where we go from there."

Meanwhile Russell Slade has confirmed he is trying to secure a long term deal for former QPR defender Terrell Forbes.

"He's a sort of player that I'm sure a lot of clubs would want in their squad. We've talked about figures and we'd like to bring him to this football club", the Town boss told Radio Humberside.

Forbes is currently on a week-to-week contract at Blundell Park until a court appearance at the Old Bailey, where he is charged with rape, has been concluded.
