Town Hold AGM

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 20/12/2004

THE Mariners held their AGM today, immediately followed by a special EGM in which it was proposed to reduce the size of the board from five to three.

The following were the key points from the AGM:

  • The minimum size of the board was reduced from five to three members, although the board are keen to stress that they would like more representation from local businesses and wealthy fans.
  • The average gate so far this season is 35% over and above what the club have budgeted for.
  • Season ticket sales were higher than last year, with 600 junior holders.
  • The Youngs' shirt sponsorship and Nike brand on the shirt were contributing to the best Club Shop sales for years. Commercial income also remains high, despite two successive relegations.
  • Chairman John Fenty is hoping to bring some news on Town's proposed new stadium in the New Year.

Meanwhile Town boss Russell Slade is hoping to get a new striker in place in time for Saturday's game with Macclesfield. "I have looked at a couple of players but it's still early days. One of them is playing in League One and the other is from further afield", Slade told the Grimsby Telegraph. "We'll see what happens this week - hopefully we can end that long search."
