Darren Mansaram

One of the few plus points of the fateful 2002/2003 season was the performances of various Grimsby Town youngsters who had, due to an extremely limited squad, been forced into the fray although it is interesting to note that following the departure of coach Paul Wilkinson, these youngsters tended not to fulfil their considerable potential the following season.

Certainly Mansaram was the pick of the bunch and following promising reserve performances made his debut down at Brighton and struck up a good partnership up front, initially with Steve Kabba.

Not a natural goalscorer but he did contribute the odd strike, in particular a glorious goal against Preston at Blundell Park. Spent the run-in on his todd up front and his morale clearly began to wane as Town were relegated. The following season saw him take the number 10 shirt, but to no avail as his form dipped significantly.

Following the arrival of Russell Slade, Mansaram's days were numbered and he was shunted off, initially on loan, to Halifax.

Darren showed a huge amount of promise initially; a good touch, a lot of heart and the physical strengths required. He could have been a good player for Town, he may still be a good player but sadly never quite fulfilled his potential at Blundell Park.
