JPK Set for Egypt

JEAN Paul Kalala has been selected in a preliminary 28 man squad for DR Congo's African Nation Cup, which this year is in Egypt. The Town player sets off on Friday and could be missing from action for up to a month if he is named in the final 23-man squad on Tuesday.

Congo's three group games are against Togo (Jan 21), Angola (Jan 25) and Cameroon (Jan 29). The Simbas won the tournament in 1968 and 1974, but have struggled in recent decades and on paper do not have much chance of progressing past the group stages.

Ironically since Kalala was catapulted to fame with the stunning winning goal over Spurs in September, the African has struggled to get into Town's squad, with Ciaran Toner supplanting the 23-year-old in central midfield.

The 28-man squad is as follows, of which five players will be trimmed by Tuesday for the tournament proper. LuaLua of Pompey and Zola of Tranmere are the other representatives from British football.

Goalkeepers: Francis Chansa (Orlando Pirates, South Africa), Pascal Kalemba (MangaSport, Gabon), Dikete Tapungu (Umtata Bush Bucks, South Africa).
