League Two Round-Up

By: Jake Olley
Date: 09/04/2006

A Michael Bridges goal just after the break sealed the points for Carlisle in a scrappy match at the top in League Two. Many people now are of the opinion that the title is now the Cumbrians' to lose and therefore in their own hands.

Northampton threw away a two goal lead at home to Rochdale resulting in them only taking a point. Rochdale broke back with the quality of Richie Lambert to keep their survival hopes alive.

Wycombe also slipped up, losing 2-1 away to strugglers Macclesfield. Wycombe are now five points off the promotion zone and at this rate will do well to stay in the play-offs.

Their was no such problem though for Leyton Orient as they defeated Boston 2-0 at home. Orient always looked comfortable throughout and this showed in their slick finishing.

At the bottom of League Two both Rushden and Chester picked up huge wins away to Bristol and Oxford respectively. Drewe Boroughton sealed the win for the Diamonds while Asamaoh kept Chester's hopes very much alive.

Meanwhile, fellow strugglers Torquay picked up an invaluable three points at home to Darlington. Kevin Hill kept the dream alive for John Cornworth's men.

Crowd trouble overshadowed Lincoln's 1-1 draw with Mansfield at Sincil Bank. Francis Green gave the Imps the lead until Alan Russell's last minute free kick sent the Stags home with a point.

In the game of the day play-off hopefuls Cheltenham drew 3-3 at home to Stockport. Liam Dickingson grabbed a equaliser with the last kick of the game to earn Stockport a point.

Bury were beat 3-1 at home to Peterboro' thanks to a brace from Danny Crow which dents Bury's great escape challenge even further.

And finally Barnet beat Notts County 2-1 thanks to goal from Ian Hendon which helps their chances of survival even further.
