Slade Wants New Deal

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 29/05/2006

WITH his contract at Blundell Park due to expire on Wednesday, Russell Slade is looking to re-open the discussions on his new deal, if there is one.

"We will probably have talks fairly quickly, perhaps before I go on holiday, to try and conclude it with the chairman, but if not the break will do me good anyway."

"If things are right and we can thrash out details, of which there is only one that really needs addressing, then we will see how things go."

It would seem that the one detail he refers to is that of money. There can be no doubt that the talks were postponed until after Cardiff in the hope that Town gained promotion, in which case Slade would have had a stronger negotiating position.

On the result at Cardiff Slade said; "It wasn't the greatest goal you'll ever see win a football match but if you hit the target, that's what sometimes happens. We're very disappointed."

"Disappointed for one that we missed out on automatic promotion and two we had a second opportunity here and didn't get the result we all desired."

"We got a little bit of momentum, had a couple of opportunities and certainly a penalty appeal we felt fairly strongly about.

"Big moments in football matches change games and we thought that was possibly a moment for us."

On the Reddy substitution he said; "We had to make the substitution, he was actually out cold."

Slade encouraged his players to stay out and applaud Cheltenham 'out of respect'. "It's hard defeat sometimes. But it's etiquette to do it right, and hopefully it will be us one day."
