Bore is Rewarded

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 17/08/2006

YOUNG starlet Peter Bore has signed a new three year deal with the Mariners following a successful start to the season for the Grimsby-born midfielder. The 18-year-old had just been on a 6 month contract taking him up until Xmas, but will now be at Blundell Park until at least May 2009.

"Peter Who?" would have been the response of most Town fans even a few weeks ago, but Bore made a debut that will long be remembered against Boston in the first game of the season. Losing 2-0 to their local rivals the Pilgrims and looking racing certainties to lose, Graham Rodger brought on Bore as a substitute. His first touch in less than 10 seconds from a Rankin pass gave him the space to shoot; his second a split second later saw the ball launched into the back of the net. Bore's first goal was bettered by going on to score the winner and see Town turn it around to win 3-2.

Since then local hero Bore has featured in both away games at Wrexham and Bristol Rovers as a substitute and has looked the part on both occasions.

Bore started playing football as a striker but his career was threatened by two broken legs as a youth team player, which he has overcome. Recently he has moved to the right side of midfield, where his pace and ability to take on players and beat them is best employed.

Bore is one of a clutch of young professionals at Blundell Park who Graham Rodger has promised to give a chance this season. We have yet to see any of the others, but they will be hard pressed to have the immediate impact of Peter Bore.

  • The Mariners are still hoping to sign two new players in time for them to feature in tomorrow's game against Mansfield at Blundell Park, KO. 7:45pm.
