Crewe Team News

MICHAEL Reddy could be back in action for the Mariners on Tuesday night against Crewe. The Irishman is waiting for another operation on his problematic groin injury, but is able to play in the meantime. Reddy faces a late fitness test prior to the visit of the Railwaymen.

Veteran John McDermott is a major doubt with a hip injury and winger Gary Cohen is still a month away from a return after undergoing knee surgery.

Gary Croft stands by to deputise for Macca in a competition Town enjoyed enormous success in last season. If Reddy is passed fit, Rodger will have to decide whether to drop youngster Peter Bore to the bench, or make way for him by leaving another player out. One option is to play Reddy and Rankin up front, and make Gary Jones - who has failed to rediscover the form of last season - a substitute.

Huddersfield haved requested that on-loan defender Martin McIntosh cannot play in the match to avoid being cup tied later in the season, meaning a return to the first team for Ben Futcher alongside Justin Whittle in the back four.

Crewe boss Dario Gradi has three players unavailable for the Carling Cup clash. Neil Cox (back), Tony Grant (Achilles), and Lee Bell (foot) will all miss out on the trip to Blundell Park. The Railwaymen, who were relegated to League One last season, have failed to win any of their first four games and currently sit once again in the relegation zone.

Town Barnes, Croft, Whittle, Futcher, Newey, Bore, Bolland, Toner, Beagrie, Rankin, Reddy Subs: Harkins, Jones, Murray, North, Hegarty

Crewe (from): Williams, Otsemobor, Baudet, O'Donnell, Jones, Lowe, Gary Roberts, O'Connor, Vaughan, Higdon, Rodgers, Maynard, Varney, Tomlinson, Rix, Kempson

Prediction: Town to shake off their indifferent start to the season:
1-0 to the Mariners!
