Pretty pointless signing by Buckley in the summer of 2008. I remember the few days up until Hope's signing, the Fishy message board was full of posts saying about Hope being the next new face in at Blundell Park, and with his poor track record, habit of playing for clubs that end up being relegated, and poor write up's, we all dreaded the news. The news was confirmed and Hope joined Grimsby on a TWO YEAR CONTRACT!!!! Oddly on his debut, a friendly against Oldham Athletic, he scored and didn't play too badly. But from day one of the season, it was obvious that the new centre backs, Hope and Matt Heywood, were just not going to work. Hope then picked up an injury. While injured Grimsby replaced Buckley with Mike Newell, and a few months later, Hope was released from his contract "by mutual consent".
