Serge Makofo

Signed by Neil Woods in January 2011 after apparently being recommended by a scout. Rumours had it that the scouts had actually recommended a different player entirely. Neil Woods went to see the player in action, and having witnessed Makofo have a stormer thought this was the same player. Makofo was signed on a 3 year contract, and made his debut up front.

It was immediately apparent that Serge was no more than a rough diamond, and could have easily been signed by Brian Laws when he signed similar players.

Makofo had a very heavy touch, but played better when deployed on the wing. His pace and momentum would cause defenders no end of problems, even if he was unable to ever deliver a final ball.

By May 2011, John Fenty described the signing of Makofo as 'a disaster' and he was made available for transfer. Despite a second chance in the first team at the start of the season, Serge again fell out of favour, spending the majority of the season on the bench before leaving by mutual consent in July 2012.
