Mariners Fans Looking To Boost Towns Coffers!

By: Mariners Net
Date: 28/06/2001

WITH JUST three days left of the discount period, season ticket sales for the Mariners new campaign have now surpassed the £300,000 mark. Over 2,100 fans (including 450 "£50 Juniors") have already booked their seats for the season, with sales from the next 72 hours yet to be added on.

The club is extremely hopeful of a final figure in the region of £400,000 which would be in excess of last years revenue of £ 368,000. Numbers-wise, there were 2381 season ticket holders for 2000-01, but for the forthcoming season the club is well on course for a figure of around 2500.

"...this is an incredibly positive gesture from the supporters..."

Accounts Manager Steve Wraith told Mariners Net, "Obviously, sales aren't over yet but this is an incredibly positive gesture from the supporters showing their backing for the club." He continued by issuing a plea to fans who had still not renewed.

"It would be appreciated if all season ticket holders who are renewing from last season could use the pre-paid envelope provided, as we have had cases at the Ticket Office where people have been waiting for up to half an hour to renew their seats."

The club has been hugely encouraged by the response from the fans, particularly bearing in mind the fact that Stuart Campbell has been the only "new" signing to date. However, Lennie Lawrence returns to his desk on Monday to begin his serious preparations for the new campaign and strengthening his squad will be his priority, as the real 'in and out' stories begin to materialise with the passing of the 30th June contract expiry date.

The Town boss still has the futures of Peter Handyside and Wayne Burnett to finalise, with the outcome in both cases being the decisive factor in the extent of his strengthening process. In the case of Kevin Donovan, Lennie has been resigned to losing the midfielder for several weeks, and indeed the player's transfer to Barnsley will be confirmed next week.
