Grimsby Disablities Coach in National Call-Up

EDWARD WRIGHT (pictured), who manages Grimsby Town Disabilities Football Club, has been asked to work as part of the coaching set-up for the England Disabilities team, starting with the national side's first fixture on August 19th against Belgium.

With a UEFA 'B' licence under his belt, the Linkage College lecturer is excited at the prospect of working with the best disabled players in the country, with a view to leading them to success in the World Cup in two years time.

"It is an honour to be asked to work for England, at any level, and the standard of players I will be working with should test my abilities as a coach. Grimsby Town DFC players have been watched by England coaching staff, and a number have been earmarked for trials with the squad early in August. I have also recommended one of my players, whom I felt deserved the opportunity to take part in the session, who had been overlooked by Kevin Roots, the England manager" said Wright.

The 30 man squad to carry forward English hopes of glory in 2003 will be announced shortly, which once assembled will form the core of the team for the next two years of development at a national level. The bulk of the squad will come from the top NMFL teams, including the current National Champions Grimsby Town. The team put in a formidable performance against reigning champions Chelsea to demolish them 4-1. The resounding victory was watched by Roots, who enthused about a number of the Grimsby players after the match.

Meanwhile the club, which has developed its players and created the opportunities at National and now International level, is in need of sponsorship to maintain the good work it does at all echelons within disability football.

Any individual or organisation who can help the clubs coffers in return for high profile recognition for their support should contact Edward Wright on 07931 556706, e-mail grimsby.town.dfc@talk21.com or visit the club's web site at www.gtdfc.com.
