Where will Grimsby be next season?

Bradford Report Card

By: Dr Fishy
Date: 25/08/2002

DR FISHY gives his verdict on the Town players' performance during their 0-0 bore draw with Bradford, a match which saw Robert Taylor make his second debut after signing for the third time for Town!

Home > 2002-2003 Season > Report Cards > Bradford (a)

Coyne: Did nothing wrong, except for one or two wayward kicks. But Danny.......PLEASE PLEASE throw the ball out now and again. Stace and Stu developed sore necks watching the ball passing them in each direction. Coyne kicks long, Bradford clear, Coyne kicks long, you get the picture...

Grade: C+

McDermott: Decent, usual Macca performance. Nothing special. When Cadamarteri moved to the left late on, Macca was not too concerned.

Grade: C+

Gallimore: Was good, only beaten for pace once, and did not let stupid refereeing or packs of irritating little Bradford midfielders get the better of him.

Grade: C

Chettle: Solid but not creative. Went down injured briefly. Did not do anything badly wrong, a decent player at this level. Goodbye Raven?

Grade: C-

Groves: This was another occasion when the manager's performance was overshadowed by young Master Ford remaining on the subs bench. Put simply, until Proctor came on the Bradford front line was abysmal. And Ford or even other sub Iain Ward could have gained much experience from 90mins against Ashley (huge but useless )Ward or Danny Court Case/Cadamarteri. Instead we viewed a dull Groves v Ward fouling competition. About 8 fouls each. Yawn.

Grade: C-

Barnard: A bit of an unsung hero today. Not mentioned in Mr.Butcher's match report, but perhaps due to lack of vision by the midfield. Twice Barnard was unmarked at the fast post - the ball didn't get there. He covered for Galli reasonably, but his main contribution was making sure those pesky little Bradford midfielders - all seemed to be terriers not bantams - did not outnumber Stace and ickle Stu.

Grade: C+

Coldicott: Well, did okay. But sat really deep at times, as if conscious of our lack of pace. Was patchy - 5 mins of solid challenging and decent passing, followed by 10 minutes of mistimed lunges and being out of the action.

Grade: C-

Campbell: D+ He tried, but is too lightweight for this team. Looked busy at times, but benefitted from no midfielders on the bench, and the fact that we seemed content with 0-0. Has Donovan syndrome, whereby you forget he is on pitch for huge chunks of game, then he nearly scores.

Grade: D+

Cooke: Almost certainly our best player today, as surprised as us all with 3 vital interceptions around our box, yet still linked up well and did not waste much possession. Did not manage many crosses, and wasted one glorious opportunity to cross, and skied a free kick. Cooke was busy, involved, and unlike most wingers, a good team member.

Grade: B-

Kabba: B- Just beaten to M-o-M by Cooke. Was inventive, strong, quick, intelligent and apart from one or two selfish moments looked The Business. One to watch.

Grade: B-

Taylor: OhMyGodHeLastedOnlyTwentyMinutes. Taylor and Bradford do not go together, its his bogey team. He irritated his long lost Dutch cousin Molenaar to the extent that Molenaar was lucky to last 20minutes let alone the 90. Promising before he fell in a heap.

Grade: C-

SUBS

Rowan: Right. How do you rate this lad? He comes on, can't get involved early on, and then struggles as he is unfairly put in Taylor/Livvo role. Once or twice he uses chest control or flicks, which don't quite come off. He tried, but ultimately failed. Loan him out, bring him back stronger, he may yet make it.

Grade: C-

Robinson: Got about 3 mins. Poor sod. Personally, think Rodger/Wilko should have put Robbo on left wing for 15 mins at expense of Campbell, with Barnard in centre mid... worth a try.

Ford didn't come on. Groan.

Ward didn't come on. Groan.

Jevons - not even a sub, is this goodbye?

Grade Guide

A*This is almost impossible to achieve as I will refuse to give anyone this grade - unless they score six goals and get opposing players sent off.
AThis is more possible to achieve, although the player must have had a brilliant game i.e. he can't have put a foot wrong all match.
A-The player must have performed superbly, setting up goals, scoring goals, making match-winning tackles etc.
B+The player played to a very high standard indeed having been influential throughout the 90 minutes.
BThis can be achieved if the player had a very good game overall but could be forgiven for making one or two minor mistakes.
B-The player put in a performance worthy of special mention for his efforts on the pitch or otherwise having a good game.
C+A mark for players who have had an average game but at the same time played well in patches and may have had an impact on the final score.
CAn average performance but not worthy of being dropped for the next game - a competent performance.
C-Start thinking about the player's attitude and commitment on the pitch. Showed little effort and was probably invisible for most of the match.
D+Poor game and realistically shouldn't feature in the next game.
DThis player shouldn't be playing in the near future.
D-The player deserves to be fined for his abysmal performance
EThe player should be sacked
F And then shot
