Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby be next season?

What's Been Happening?

By: Richard Hubbert

TAKING three different holidays from the end of July to September has meant I have missed all of Town’s matches so far this season.

"Lucky you" you might think, but I'm not happy at all: just what has been happening at Blundell Park?

Although the start of the season has not been completely disastrous (we have at least, 2 points) it has been pretty woeful, certainly results wise.

I went on my holidays though, in the knowledge that we had accumulated a decent squad and together with the signings of Chettle, Cooke, Barnard and Robinson, I was reasonably confident we could do all right this season. How wrong I was! Disaster appears to have followed disaster. We lost at Norwich, Livvo fractures his skull, Taylor falls in a heap, we lose to Portsmouth and then Millwall.

All this did not make pleasant reading when I was reading the Daily Express in Spain! Moreover, the team selection was baffling me. I read we were playing one man up front. What’s going on there? We have four forwards on the books - what was Robinson signed for? Seemingly he is not allowed to start a game and has been brought to simply warm up the bench. If it goes on much longer, he and the rest of our flock of strikers will have splinters on their backsides!

Perhaps I am wrong, and Mr Groves is right. There might be some unknown reason for this I thought, when laying next to the poolside in Majorca. But when I got back home and read up on all the news on this web site I found that I wasn't wrong at all. It seems to me that Groves has mysteriously transformed into a negative and "unadventurous" manager - a shadow of the one who kept us up last season by encouraging attacking football.

I know personnel has changed, but the manager and the whole mentality of this side has which is much more worrying. This saddens me and I only hope this negative football does not continue. We are still in this division because we attacked teams last season with exciting football, playing with no fear in our game. This, if any would be my message to Paul Groves, partly because the last time I saw Town this is the side we were, leaving me to question just what has been happening since last May?
