Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby be next season?

Fishy Player of the Year Winner

By: Tony Hamilton
Date: 27/04/2003

AT the end of yet another up and down campaign we are all looking at watching Second Division football next year for the first time in the last few years. Here is the result of the Fishy’s Player of the Year vote.

Our trophy will be presented to the winning player at the Winter Gardens next Tuesday (April 29th), and tickets are still on sale at £2 if you want to go along and lend your support to the lads. Here are the six nominations and the votes they amassed by you

Terry Cooke (10 votes)

Terry hasn't played as many games as he should have, but is still a fans' favourite and keeps us guessing if he’s one of the out of contract players that might stay

Paul Groves (10 votes)

The Gaffer has seen Town be relegated in his first full season as the Manager, and will be trying his best to get Grimsby Town back via the play-offs next season

Alan Pouton (15 votes)

WE missed him in the last few games, and will be a vital asset if he keeps injury and suspension free for the play-off push next season

John McDermott (15 votes)

The longest serving player on Grimsby Town's books and the club's record appearance holder, John's form has suffered, like some of the other players, due to the Mariners' poor season

Stuart Campbell (89 votes)

Stuart’s form has got him on the fringe of playing for his adopted country and he will be valuable to Town next season, if he can keep his form consistent

And the winner is.........

Georges Santos (155 votes)

Georges has been a breath of fresh air since he signed permanently for Grimsby Town, after the problems he had last season with Sheffield United. If he can keep the "red mist" at bay will be an accomplished player next season. He is one of the 12 out-of-contract players and most of the summer the Club will keep us guessing who staying and who’s going.
