Paul Warhurst

To be fair, former Premiershiup legend Paul Warhurst did not join Grimsby at the peak of his career. Warhurst made a name for himself at Sheffield Wednesday in the early nineties, being "that defender" who was re-positioned in attack....and it actually worked.

Warhurst joined Town at the start of the Nicky Law era, after a release from Bolton Wanderers. He had found it hard to adjust to any new club and had recently been playing for Barnsley, Chesterfield and Carlisle United before making a move to Grimsby in the later stages of the 2003/2004 season.

On his debut he managed to bundle the ball into the back of his own net, scoring an equaliser for former team Chesterfield, and not making a strong impression on his debut.

After 5 starts and 2 sub apperances Warhurst was let go after the relegation to League Two. His new destination was Blackpool, but it was going to be the same old luck at the other northern seaside resort.
