GRIMSBY striker Jermaine Palmer has joined manager Russell Slade's former club Scarborough on a month's loan. The former Stoke City attacker is down the pecking order for a starting place at Blundell Park and is to get some first team experience with the Conference outfit.

  • FORMER Mariner Gary Croft is having talks with the club later this week about a possible return to Blundell Park nine years after leaving Grimsby. The versatile defender has played at Blackburn, Ipswich and Cardiff since moving from Town for a six figure sum to then newly crowned Champions Blackburn Rovers.

The 31-year-old has missed more than a year though injury, but has been released by Cardiff and is now looking for a new challenge. Trialist Croft impressed in last night's 2-1 defeat to his former club Rovers and set up the Mariners' only goal of the game.

  • ANOTHER former Mariner striker Michael Boulding has announced that he is to retire from professional football at the age of 29. Boulding had been offered terms by Crewe but has decided to concentrate on his property business. The former tennis pro's football career lasted just six years, the most successful of which undoubtedly were his two spells at Blundell Park in 2001-2002 and 2003-2004.

  • VETERAN John McDermott is also to retire from football at the end of this season. The club's record appearance holder, who has played for Grimsby continuously since 1986/87, will hang his boots up in May and is hoping to finish on a high.

Macca told Radio Humberside: "This season is all about enjoyment for me. I aim to go out with a bang and hopefully the club can get promotion."

    Amen to that.
