Slade Delighted With Performance

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 28/09/2005

RUSSELL Slade, in his post match interview, praised the player's performances after the 4-0 victory over Notts County. "Delighted with the tempo and performance and it had to be against a hard-working Notts County side".

"They came with a certain game plan and changed their shape to 3-4-3. It took us a little bit of time to settle into the game in the first 10-15 minutes," Slade told Mariners Net.

On the goals he said; "Once we got the goal it seemed to lift us another gear and they began to struggle at the back. In my view the second goal was no more than we deserved at half-time - it could have been more."

"It's a difficult score line to come out with but the third goal which came in great style through JP was crucial. Straight after half-time it really sealed the match."

"They (Notts County) had a couple of chances due to a little bit of sloppiness but overall it was an accomplished performance and I was delighted to see Gary Cohen come off the bench and get his first goal for the club to round the evening off."

"All it is though is three points and we look to Saturday at Shrewsbury now to continue the momentum

"Rob Jones now has three for the season and has been magnificent. I say to them every week that I'll accept mistakes if there's a reaction and he typified that tonight with that tackle he made. He made a horrendous back pass but gets back and recovers to make an unbelievable tackle."

"I'm pleased for Gritts because he worked his trolley off tonight. It's good to have the strikers on the scoresheet with Gary and Gritts."

"JP is capable of that sort of goal as we've seen in the last couple of weeks but he isn't one who practices it in training."

Other news: JP is set for a recall to the Democratic Republic of Congo's World Cup squad after Coach Claude Le Roy said he would name the 23-year-old midfielder later this week in his squad for the country's final World Cup qualifier away to South Africa on October 8, which means JPK will miss the Wycombe game at Blundell Park.
