TOWN came from behind at Bury to continue their impressive form away from home and go a long way towards bouncing back from defeat in the previous game to Bristol Rovers.

The Mariners lined up as expected, with JPK Kalala and Martin Gritton still having to settle for a place on the bench. The pitch at the start of the game looked in poor condition, and it was to worsen as the game progressed, and it became increasingly cut-up.

A large and highly vocal away contingent was present, several of whom were wearing highly amusing fancy dress outfits. Very few of the locals turned out, especially considering it was a Bank Holiday clash and Bury's last two results had been so impressive.

Michael Reddy had a couple of early penalty shouts, the second of which looked a definite spot kicked, but the Town striker was turned down on both occasions by the referee.

The Shakers' David Flitcroft shot wide when well placed, and it was the home side who drew first blood. Another David Flitcroft shot was tipped over the bar for a corner by Mildenhall, which looked unnecessary as it was going fractionally over the goal. From the resultant corner the ball was knocked down to the feet of the unmarked Reet who had a simple tap-in.

Town equalised, probably against the run of play, through a Tom Newey free kick. The left back launched a long ball from around the half way line into the box. The ball seemed to be too close to the 'keeper to cause any danger but the Bury defence failed to clear it and it grazed off the top of Gary Jones head into the goal.

The start of the second half was delayed by a male streaker who evaded capture rather impressively before voluntarily giving himself up to the Bury stewards.

Mildenhall kept Town in it saving the ball with his feet from a Reet shot. The Town 'keeper was also forced to make another couple of saves from corners to keep Grimsby in the game. The Mariners' defence also had to absorb a lot of pressure, but with dangerman Michael Reddy up front always looked dangerous going forward.

Town were awarded a couple of dangerous free kicks, the best of which was a Tom Newey shot which forced a save from the 'keeper.

Bury also went close when Gary Croft got back to clear off the line, and the Shakers also came close when Reet hit a cross-shot along the face of the goal which nobody could get a touch to.

Town's sucker punch came when the ball was knocked out via the 'keeper to Gary Cohen in the box during a Town attack and the Grimsby winger made no mistake from close range.

Town survived a tense final few minutes, with Mildenhall once again called to parry a Paul Scott header from a corner.

Yet again Grimsby produced a committed performance away from home, where they have got into the habit of winning this season.

MOM: Steve Mildenhall- kept Town in the game with some crucial saves at critical moments. Of the outfield players Paul Bolland in midfield covered an enormous amount of ground and Michael Reddy was a constant danger whenever he had the ball.
