Four Major Shareholders To Support Fenty

IN a statement to the Grimsby Telegraph, four major shareholders have said they will support the proposal by John Fenty to gain 51% of the clubs sharefolding without having to make a formal takeover.

Steve Bygott, Clive Aspinall and David and Chris Carr issued the statement saying that though they believe the club should belong to the people of Grimsby, at present its interests are best served by having Mr Fenty in control.

The statement reads;

"In response to the 'Letter from the Chairman' that we received in our AGM notice, we would like to make the following comments:".

"We have a long association with Grimsby Town Football Club and follow its fortunes with great interest. Our fathers have all served Grimsby Town as either directors or chairman, and two of us have also served as directors. We still have a joint shareholding of almost 19 per cent in GTFC."

"Our fathers were strongly opposed to Grimsby Town Football Club being controlled by one person and we believe, as they did, that the club should belong to the people of Grimsby."

"Nevertheless, we believe that in the short-to-medium term, the club needs stability and that Mr Fenty is the man best able to provide this stability. Not only is he a fervent supporter of Grimsby Town but he also has the financial clout to support his passion."

"The four of us have always supported Mr Fenty in his running of the club, and backed him 100 per cent when it came to the issue of releasing more shares. We hope that in the longer term the club will re-open its doors to like-minded individuals who have the same passion for the club and who are prepared to make a financial commitment to its future."

"We will be backing Mr Fenty's proposed acquisition of shares to make him 51 per cent majority shareholder. We hope others will follow and support the chairman in these very difficult times."
