The sort of player that Norwich would sign, most of their players have played in the lower divisions fairly recently.

Could it be Harry? (Redknapp, not the Haddock)

2212: More news from Tottenham. Lots of it. Spurs boss Harry Redknapp says he tried to sign Juventus winger Milos Krasic this week but he only wanted the Serbia international on loan and the Italian side were only interested in a permanent deal. Redknapp also says he could not let Steven Pienaar goes back to Everton because he has too many injuries and has revealed that Wolves want to sign Sebastien Bassong but he will need to complete a deal for an unnamed defender before he lets that one go through

Quoted Text
Sky Sports understands Norwich have made a late move to try to beat Swansea to the signing of Peterborough defender Ryan Bennett.

Our sources reported earlier on Tuesday the Swans were lining up a transfer deadline day swoop for the highly-rated stopper.

However, fellow Premier League newcomers the Canaries have moved to block the deal at the last minute and snare the youngster for themselves.

Bennett, an England Under-21 international, has emerged as one of the Championship's most promising defenders.

Posh boss Darren Ferguson recently claimed Manchester United were monitoring the 21-year-old's progress.

The defender, who arrived at London Road from Grimsby Town in 2009, has notched up 31 appearances in all competitions for Peterborough this season, scoring one goal.

Norwich is more local to Peterboro', Ipswich (his first club and presumably home area) and his girlfriend in Grimsby than Swansea.

That is if there is a choice of clubs.  Just a though.  We will take any transfer share from any club.

Highest Transfer Fee Received – £2.5 million rising to £3.2 million from Brighton & Hove Albion for Craig Mackail-Smith, July 2011

Quoted from Wikipedia so might be true, might not.

As well as the possible financial benefits to us, I'd just like to wish Ryan all the best - what a great opportunity for his career development, he was always very loyal and professional during his time at GTFC.

Can somebody just confirm how much he has gone for? I'm going to go with the majority who are saying 20% of 500k profit for the sell on fee.

Move to Norwich agreed, loaning him back for the rest of the season.  Record fee for Posh. Undergoing medical as we speak (type ).

from Peterborough Evening Telegraph:

Published on Tuesday 31 January 2012 22:37

POSH have dramatically sold central defender Ryan Bennett to Premier League club Norwich in the final hour of the January transfer window.

The England Under 21 international’s transfer will go through subject to a medical but he will immediately be loaned back to Posh for the rest of the season.

The fee is undisclosed but it is understood to be a Posh record sale, topping the £2.5 million received for Craig Mackail-Smith in the summer.

Norwich spent £3m on Dean Ashton and £3.5m on Rob Earnshaw, so I doubt it.

Still excellent business though. Hope he does well.

Minus 500K   I thought it was we get 20% if the offer was over 500K which it is I don't think I have ever heard a sell on like that.

3 mill x 0.20 = 600K kaaaaaaaaaarching

Posh fan just said in Peterboro paper:  "Well done Ryan.  Another stepping stone on your way to the very top".

Boo Fenty for not having a further sell-on clause.

If he plays for the full England team, he will have the character to to better than some current players' behaviour.

Good luck to him.

Best of luck Ryan, hard work gets you places and I'm really happy not only for the pay day for Town but to see one of our youth players progress to the top flight.

Ipswich Town's youth player. We were just another stepping stone for him. Let's not pretend he's a "local lad" who made it to the top he's not.

An excellent young player and we've done very well out of him.

Although only 21, he's got fantastic experience and great potential - how many centre-halves have played 200-odd games at such a young age? Not many, that's for sure.

Do we get any more money if he wins a full cap for England in the future?

Just kidding.

Am I right in thinking that as long as a bid was logged before deadline the deal can still go through or is it if the deal is not signed before the deadline then its a no deal?

Nothing on Sky Sports or either official site though. Rumblings on the Norwich forum that the deadline might have been missed, that's all.

this was taken from the norwich forum:

McNally has just tweeted that he's waiting to hear.

Paperwork has obviously been sent, just waiting to hear if they made it in time

I think its upto the FA to decide whether the transfer can go through based on the stage it is at.

I believe they have a precedent of allowing 'late transfers' if the player has been completing a medical etc at the time.

What do you think to the pedestrianisation of Norwich city centre?

brilliant news, presumably a minimum of 2.6 mill = an absolute minimum of £420k for Town!!

Would just like to say good luck to Ryan Bennett who was a very loyal and professional player for Town, hope he really does it for Norwich.  Who knows he might even go on to play for Gt Britain at the Olympics, or even the fulll England team.  Who was the last Town player to go on to play for England (as in after finishing at Town, not play for England and later on play for Town)?  Drinkell or Wilkinson maybe?

If completed that money would be a huge boost! Always from a young lad thought he was going to be a good player but never premiership standard. Good luck ryan

Are we being hasty in accepting this 25% cut,  at least 400K ? maybe even 600K according to rumour...

I think we shud contact the Posh and agree that as they are only a smallish club trying to make good
we shud accept in hindsight the 250K offered by BIG BARRY  last week....

I guess there's 3 things to note here.

1. Very well done to Neil Woods for recognising the potential of Ryan after he left Ipswich. We owe him so much for this.
2. We've made around a £1 million from this.
3. All the best to a thorough professional who deserves everything he's achieved at town, Peterborough, and undoubtedly will in the future.

Despite the tough times when he was leading the squad, it was always a pleasure to watch him play.

From a Posh point of view I absolutely agree. It's always disappointing to lose your best players but if you buy young for their potential, there will always be some that fulfill it and move on to better things. Hope Ryan proves to be a big success at Norwich.

Given Frys attempt to buy us out of the sell on clause, I think JF, will already be perusing a copy. The value will be known soon, as I understand a few posters on here still have contact with RBs family/friends !

Ipswich Town's youth player. We were just another stepping stone for him. Let's not pretend he's a "local lad" who made it to the top he's not.

Where in my post did I say he was a local lad, any Town fan knows Ryan was signed by Neil Woods when he was released from Ipswich youth and joined Town as part of the youth team midway through the 2006–07 season. So the point I made is valid, he went from our youth team to first team.  Town gave him a break he didn't get elsewhere, you are just splitting hairs for the sake of negativity.

Supporting the Mighty Mariners for over 30 years, home town club is were the heart and soul is and it's great to be a part of it.

Ryan Bennett deserves the move he has just achieved. Also the accolades that are richly deserved to people like Neil Woods who I believed originally signed  Ryan Bennett Grimsby Town

What a really nice lad Ryan is as well, presented some awards to Cambridge Park school for me, stayed for over two hours signed every autograph that was put in front of him the kids loved him.

Ryan loved the Grimsby Town football club to bits, a perfect Pro who I was glad to get to know personally and am delighted that maybe he is on the way to have a continuing first class football career.

I reckon that in a couple of years or so Ryan will be gracing an even bigger stadium and be
playing for a side that figures regularly in the " top 6 " and the big European competitions....
John Terry and Rio Ferdinand will have to move over sometime ....

According to the Sun today the fee is around £3 million... Also says Swansea had bid £1.5 million earlier in the day... Cheap illegitimates

Anyone know what happens to our share of the fee if Norwich's agreement with Peterborough means that the transfer fee is paid in installments over a period of time. Do we have to wait or do we get it immediately?

so we can safely say that the fee is nowhere near £3million then

anyway - just to echo the previous sentiments

first and foremost well done to ryan - a real nice fella and looks to be making the very best of his abilities (are you taking note mr bore?)
am sure norwich will be an excellent fit for him playing wise and will be very convenient given his essex/suffolk background. wouldn't it be great if he continues to progress and manages to play for england soon?
secondly thanks and praise to neil woods for bringing him on so well - be interested to learn how much of the foundations woods laid
well done to jf for inserting the sell on clause - and hopefully this will make jf re assess his position viz a vis the club/finances/moving forward now that the a huge financial burden has been lifted

a bluddy good day all round for gtfc - lets hope folks get behind em and stream through the gates of bp to further help the team and the financial situation

If we had an international appearances clause in the deal with PBoro would it still be continued in his new contract?
If McDonut is saying it smashed previous record by a long way, n 2.8 being the record for Mackail Smif, how much more than 2.8 is smashing that record?

10am-  Just tweeted by John Tondeur:

Have been told by the club that Bennett's sell on clause is 25%.

And to Newell for sticking him in the first team and making him skipper?

Very pleased for the lad even if I don't think he's as good as Norwich think he is. The sell on will get us somewhere around £350k - £400k which will help to pay the electricity bill and might even mean a coat of paint for the toilets.

Sounds like it's a least £3mill, so that means we are at least £625k to the good!  If it's £3.5m then we are in for £750k! Yipee!

Either way we are now financially secure for the rest of the season. We will probably lose Hearn at the end of the season but for a substantial amount of dosh, enough to keep the majority of this squad together so whatever happend this season, we should be strong contenders next season too.

Happy days!

3,000,000 minus 500,000 = 2,500,000 *.25 = 625,000.

Well it 'smashes the previous record by a long way' according to Peterborough chairman, and the previous record was £2.8million, so you would think it's well over £3mill.

What a dream result!

CMS to Brighton fee was 3.2 million, sell on clause ranges from 15% to 25% depending on how optimistic you want to be, knowing Bary Frys negotiating skills I would guess that it is towards the lower figure. but it will never be revealed despite claims by some to have inside knowledge, I would imagine that Ryan isn't privy to that information either.

Fair point. Don't shoot the messenger though. The fact it is now on Wiki probably makes it less likely to be true!

Record transfers
Highest Transfer Fee Received – £3.2 million from Norwich City for Ryan Bennett, January 2012

Highest Transfer Fee Paid – £500,000 to Fulham for Gabriel Zakuani, January 2009 and to Grimsby Town for Ryan Bennett, January 2010

If you read the earlier post (you should be OK - this is the Fishy so there are no big words) he claims there is a clause which defers at least some of the sell on fee until Bennett gets a full cap - now if that means we don't get what all the idiots on here have been getting so excited about for the last 12 hours (and taking their socks off to help with the calculations) then I reckon that's pretty flipping bad news don't you?

This is Grimsby Town FC - if it's possible to fuk it up or get screwed over by Peterboro then you can guarantee we will.

Lets wait and see eh?

If you read the earlier post (you should be OK - this is the Fishy so there are no big words) he claims there is a clause which defers at least some of the sell on fee until Bennett gets a full cap - now if that means we don't get what all the idiots on here have been getting so excited about for the last 12 hours (and taking their socks off to help with the calculations) then I reckon that's pretty flipping bad news don't you?

This is Grimsby Town FC - if it's possible to fuk it up or get screwed over by Peterboro then you can guarantee we will.

Lets wait and see eh?

yeah you're right; terrible news : really really really bad that bennett got sold on for a record fee and that jf far sightedly added in a sell on clause - booo fenty boo - why did you do that?? wish we'd never known about it - in fact i wish bennett had gone for nowt so we couldn't have got excited by the prospect of having been saved financially.
actually ipshitwin i could do with your help - i've started to get happy and optimistic about our unbeaten run - can you cure me of this psotivity , coz i'm sure ,like the bennett transfer, that its not good news to be winning all these games.

ps bet you're dead upset that hearn didn't get sold yesterday - bet that news would've made your day

That depends on how much we might have got for him and whether it was cash up front or 10 bob a week forever

Incidentally what's your ridiculous guesstimate (without actually knowing the financial details) of what we will get in from Bennett's sell-on ?

about as accurate as yours, although if i carry on with your mindset i'm sure i'll eventually come to the conclusion that we actually owe money to p'boro ,fry and norwich

Just phoned the Posh and was told that the fee is 3.75 million and the sell on clause was .25% deferred pending full international appearance.

you read it here first!

Surely the sell on clause mentioned here is Peterborough's from Norwich. Shouldn't affect us

Not that it matters, I wonder what sort of wage he will be on at Norwich? 20K a week?

Lets hope we continue to produce these players from the youth setup in the very near future.

Who knows. The poster allegedly rang the Posh cleaning lady to find out the fee (and presumably to check OUR sell-on clause) to assist all the mathematicians on here to perhaps amend their wild suggestions about how much Fenty has coming in.

If he has been given Posh's sell-on % for when Norwich sell Bennett then why has he included that detail in his post. We will never know - I interpreted it one way (and i suggest the poster did the same) others may see it differently

Too much info and too little actual knowledge on behalf of the original poster I suggest

If you seriously think someone phoned Peterborough (and spoke to a cleaning lady) and was told details of the transfer not made public, then I think it is YOU sir that is the 'naive one'

Of course not, every fuker knows the Peterborough cleaning lady doesn't work Wednesdays.

It seems I'm well off with a half full glass - clearly every other tvvats glass has been empty for years given all the excitement a sell-on fee and a few wins creates on here

Probably as little as every other sodomist but he is more likely to tell us than Fenty and Fry et al

Thank fcuk for that.... I was starting to think you had lost the plot...... Cleaner working Wednesdays...lol...whatever next?

But what is so criminal about fans getting excited about our beloved team doing well and looking like being competitive for the first time in years?

What would it take for you to be positive about GTFC?

Some of you fukers could cause an argument in an empty room ffs.  All that matters to me is that the squad's intact (hopefully improved) and I assume that the sell on fee secures the remainder of the seasons finances so we can concentrate on getting promotion.  If that happens I'm then assuming that the additional revenue that comes with league status plus realistic budgeting can secure the long term.  Now be good chaps and stop bickering.

I knew it was a joke because, though contrary to rumour the Pretborough cleaning lady does in fact work on a Wednesday, she is on holiday today having an ingrowing toe nail removed. Tricky operation that because it's someone else's toe nail........happened in a bizarre pilates accident.
