Now I'm not normally one to start stuff like this but I have just heard that Liam Hearn was badly injured in training today and could be out for the season.

I certainly hope not and that this is just a wind-up. No doubt some sort of official news will come out very soon if this is true.

I hope to god this is BS, with not much money left in the budget, we wouldn't be able to bring in an adequate replacement

A friend of mine on FB Dave. Not usually one for making stuff up either. Hopefully it's all one big wind-up.

my knowledge from a FB friend too although not the same friend as you.

I have known him to tell the odd fib or two before hence me trying to see if there was any credence to what he was posting before I posted anything.

Hope to god its not true.

I doubt if anyone could diagnose a player with a season long injury so quickly.
Even a broken leg is only around two and a half months out nowadays.

I genuinely believe our season is over before it has even started if this is true (I don't doubt it either... can't remember Les ever jumping the gun or being off the mark with this sort of thing).

Umm he did re-tweet something half an hour ago so that kinda suggests he's not laid up in hospital somewhere.

If it turns out to be bullshit I'll be the first one to apolgise and what STB and Chrisblor have said is slightly reassuring that bullshit is actually what it is.

I suppose in a way I have jumped the gun on this one but it was word from a friend who usually doesn't make stuff like this up and he's now probably laughing his head off that I've gone and made a prat of myself.

It's only rumour, no point anyone getting their knickers in a twist just yet.

He is just tweeting that unicurve fitness bollox this afternoon. Nothing about any injury. Hopefully it's nonsense.

Booooooooooooooooooooooooo

I was there, the day Bradley Wood scored a 35 yarder!

From the black and white striped shirts
To the fish in the sea
You'll hear us singing
Coz we are Grimsby.

You won't hear us crying
But you'll hear us shout
Coz we are the Grimsby
And this is our chant.......... Grimsby! Grimsby! Grimsby!

Gutted, now I appreciate I don't know all of the facts here but Liam had an injury at the end of the season. He came back with the same injury and was only sent to a specialist last week. Why has this been allowed to happen? Surely he should have been monitored and this should have been dealt with in June?

This 'new' injury may be unrelated, but I've been concerned for a few weeks now.

I dont think it is often the case that a player gets sent to a specialist at the start of the injury. Tend to find a specialist is more likely to get involved when the problem becomes chronic and is not healing in the more natural ways which is always preferred.

It may be this is the route the club chose to take first and foremost.

Nah Biggs, our gaffers wanted him injured cause they dont give a fook and Fenty forced them not to send him to a specialist because he didnt want anyone getting special treatment, after all he had no saleable value..........

I dont think this season, of all seasons, that really comes into it.

All of the information ive heard is that Fenty is making one big push finances wise to get us back into the league. If a player needed treatment I think he would sanction it in a flash. Particularly one that could make the club a few hundred grand in future.

Because clearly the trust is full of psychics able to predict the potential future injury status of any given player.

Maybe you should have a look into the trouble caused, in the Pietersen case, by the twitter account run by a person 'with close links to some of the England squad'.

Me personally I have no major problem with you being here. Just think that it has a good chance of going badly at some point.

So in little over an hour and 4 pages in we have a thread on how Hearn is out for the season despite no official confirmation from the club or the player himself.

I'm awaiting confirmation - but in the meantime I blame ITV Digital.

Aye. Just makes him look a little unprofessional and is embarrassing for the first team squad.
If I was him, I wouldn't be reading this site, let alone having my partner jump to my defence on it whenever anyone has a bad word to say.

OH dear not good news at all if true, I'd imagine the club won't  say oat until after the match on Saturday or at least very close to kick because a ticket sales.

Could be the old chestnut of being sold! Either way I'm not going to get carried away until I hear officially.

Maybe you should have a look into the trouble caused, in the Pietersen case, by the twitter account run by a person 'with close links to some of the England squad'.

Me personally I have no major problem with you being here. Just think that it has a good chance of going badly at some point.

have a look at my recent posts I don't really post much. and don't get into big arguments etc because of comments towards brad. I'm a town fan so I shouldn't post anymore because my partner is brad? it's silly.

and just think. . . . . . the muppets voting for the trust shares gave away their 250,000 so John could avoid selling him.

This is a massive blow if true. Not been confirmed by any means yet, but if it's true I still think we are more than capable of finishing in the play offs. I feel for Liam if it's true.

wind yer necks in girls,we are just getting the bad luck out of the way early thats all     if we are all giving up on the season because one (half decent) player may be injured then i wouldn't want to be in the trenches with some of you lot. how  do you think this drivel makes the rest of the lads in the team feel? its like saying to them liam hearn is our only decent player!........i read on here all the time about how "town fans" are the best in the game etc etc............well prove it,show some bollox and get behind the lads.

Forbes injury wasnt spotted, it wasnt a case of us not paying for the specialist. Infact when he was released we continued to pay for his treatment to help him recover and find a new club.

Patto became a fans favourite quite quickly. As did Henderson and Townsend last season.

Is that in reference to Hearn being injured or my comment about Townsend becoming a fans favourite?

If it is about Townsend becoming a favourite, what has Marshall done since to prove we were wrong releasing him?

If it is about Hearn, please spill the beans.

If true, it will be interesting to see how the managers deal with this.  Of course, in Alan Buckley's first season (third time round) he had Michael Reddy out all season, but brought in Patto for a while, and also brought on youngsters (then) like Danny North.  Hopefully, S&H will have similar contacts who can provide us with a dynamic player on a par with Patto (or his equivalent for this league) and maybe do marvellous things with Southwell (or whoever).

P.S. I don't see why Loren shouldn't keep posting?  Just because some cricketer makes a fool of himself doesn't mean she will!

Every injury is different I guess, but looking back, Peter Cech had his calf torn and he was out about 5 weeks.

Frank Lampard tore his calf muscle, he was only out for about 2 weeks.

Robbie Keane tore his calf muscle last year and was out around 4 weeks.

Going by the last two weeks it looks like John Fenty has shot another Albatross. Not good news at all, but looking forward to seeing Elding and Cook together. Let's get Cook started on the goal trail and see where it leads to.

So should he of been risked Tuesday then??? Let's be honest its not like we don't have a track record is it?

If it is his calf then that makes it even worse for the club...what was the point in that?

I'm not having a go at the club although if it is have I see it then maybe I should if we get told all the facts!

To be fair though he did look pretty sharp when he come on.

That wasnt the case at all, certainly not from me. I just fear that some people could view Loren's views as those of Brad since the two are a couple.

And before anybody asks im also not claiming that couples share opinions on everything, but they generally hold similar views. At some point somebody could claim that the things Loren says have actually come from Brad.

Again im not suggesting this has, or even will happen, but it is certainly possible - especially with some of the stirrers around.

The double substitution on Tuesday changed the game, in my opinion not for the best. It wasn't needed and if the injury has been aggrevated by playing and then coupe with heavy training it could prove more costly..time will tell I presume

Typical Fishy. Any mention of an injury to a player, especially a good player and the accusations fly. Should he have been played last game.............we don't send people for the proper scans because it's expensive......................Dave Moore is a crap physio.......................etc etc...............

Footballers get injuries. All part and parcel of the sport. That's why teams have squads.

She is mate, she's a bigger fan than me lol.  I don't think theres any problems with Loz posting on here it's not like she's posting constant inside info.

Anyway back to the subject
If Hearn has pull his calf it depends on the injury on how long he's out for.

A calf injury comes in 3 stages

Stage 1 - slight pull out for 2-3 wks
Stage 2 - a part tear out for 5-8 wks
Stage 3 - a full tear out for 5-6 months

If he's injured and I believe my niece when she says Hearns injured could this be caused by double sessions during pre-season probably.

Torn calf muscle then by all accounts . That's him out for at least 3 months then , back to match fitness at the earlist 5 months . Guess we'll see how good the new signings are now cos they're going to have to step up or were looking mid table at best . Fookin gutted .

I tweeted JT asking what kind of injury, he replied : Wont say.

Not sure how to take. Maybe the club do not know how bad it is at this present time?

sorry for him and the team if he is out for a while. I thought he looked sharp in the warm up on Tuesday but seemed to be really pushing himself and in the game when he came on he made a few very strong short bursts of pace as if to really prove he was fit. He was clearly very keen to get back playing.

Err, yeah, thanks for clearing that up. I was totally confused as to what a 'bad leg injury' was and I could never have thought of those for myself. Probably worse than all of those would be a ruptured cruciate ligament - not uncommon in footballers. That would be 6 - 9 months out at least, and if another knee injury had been sustained at the same time, perhaps he would never recover fully (believe me, I know). We'll know more in good time I'm sure, but he'll probably need a scan and there won't be a diagnosis until at least next week. We could be looking at weeks only.

Been informed by a reliable source he's torn his calf never mentioned timescales

If it's relatively bad, it should be about 6 weeks hopefully. I'd take that at this stage.

It's a very common injury in runners, essentially it's an inflammation caused by the ligament on the outer thigh, runner's injuries are becoming more and more common in footballers dues to the volume and intensity of interval training, eg 400m repeats, hill sprints, etc

Calf paid from pulled or torn calf muscle

Calf Muscle Pain, Strain or Pull
A common cause of calf muscle pain is a pulled or torn calf muscle

Sudden pain that occurs in the calf muscle during activity may be the result of a pulled or torn calf muscle. This is called a calf strain or a calf pull. It occurs when part of the muscles of the lower leg (gastrocnemius or soleus) are stretched beyond their ability to withstand the tension. This stretching can result in small microtears to the muscle fibers or, in a severe injury, a complete rupture of the muscle fibers.
Calf Muscle Cramp

A far less severe, but often painful, cause of calf pain is the calf calf muscle cramp or spasm. This involuntary contraction of a muscle, is short-lived, but in may be so strong that it causes a bruise.
Achilles Tendon Tear

A calf strain is similar to an Achilles tendon tear or rupture, but occurs higher up in the back of the leg. The signs of a calf strain are also similar to that of an Achilles tendon rupture - you may think you've just been hit in the back of the leg and hear an audible "pop." There will be sudden, sharp pain in the back of the lower leg, or pain, swelling and even bruising over the calf muscle. Most calf injuries will make it difficult to tolerate weight on injured side and make it very difficult to stand on the toes.
Calf Strain Cause and Severity

A calf strain or pull often happens during acceleration or an abrupt change in direction while running. A torn calf muscle may spasm, and contract forcefully so that the toes will automatically point downward. Bruises show up over the injured area as well as in the foot and ankle due to pooling of blood from internal bleeding.
Calf strains may be minor or very severe and are typically graded as follows:

Grade 1 Calf Strain: The muscle is stretched causing some small micro tears in the muscle fibers. Full recovery takes approximately two weeks.
Grade 2 Calf Strain : There is partial tearing of muscle fibers. Full recovery takes approximately 5-8 weeks.
Grade 3 Calf Strain: This is the most severe calf strain with a complete tearing or rupture of muscle fibers in the lower leg. Full recovery can take 3-4 months and, in some instances, surgery may be needed.

Whs BP vicar.

That tweet from hearn has reassured me somewhat. York lost walker last season and still won the playoffs, granted they played some great football but the whole team chipped in particularly Matty Blair, let's hope colbeck and soars can chip in with the over forwards until hearn comes back to cover his share of goals.

We are still short of medical facts and a diagnosis. Rumours will always fill the void.   Hindsight is wonderful.  When to play players like Hearn, coming back from an injury, is always difficult.  We should hope for the best and plan for the worst.  A big loss for us but provides an opportunity for others to step up.

When he comes back at least he will be fresh for the rest of the season.   Not likely to be sold in Jan either of course.

southwells gotta be given the nod upfront for me

Whether it would be right or wrong to play Southwell I think it is highly unlikely he will start. Given the pressure everyone is under at the club at the minute to win tomorrow to give him his full debut would be a massive call by the managers. I suspect they will look for a more experienced forward line at the current time.

Will be interested if this injury means Town are more likely to go 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 in his absence.

I'm slightly concerned that Hearn may have completely discomknockerated himself. That could be a real problem.

The rumours have certainly discombobulated this board.

If he's going to be injured it's better to happen during training than in a game. Maybe he needed an extra week with the injury he ha had? Depressing as it is early indications are he's not going to be missing for months.

Wr sound defensively inept this season and the goals are gonna dry ip!

But those who have actually gone(i.e. not you by the sound of it) have seen the defence looking pretty promising (except the odd mistake or lapse in concentration) - certainly the defence looked rock solid on Tuesday ! (can't balme them for the midfield not closing down !)

The FACTS say we've managed without Hearn when drawing to a Championship side and beating League 1 Scunny.

Obviously it's a blow but ultimately fortune always boil down to the TEAM being effective - it always does !
So let's not be too downbeat, put a smile on our faces, cheer the lads onto victory tomorrow and see where it takes us.

If he's injured and I believe my niece when she says Hearns injured could this be caused by double sessions during pre-season probably.

Meza, I'm sorry I didn't realize she was your niece !
I wrongly thought she was another WUM.
Was a little short with her tbh - I've just sent her an apology.
Sorry !

Haha it's ok we could strap one of the amputee legs like that runner at the Olympics job done

Yeah but did you see his foot ?
Might come in handy for those crunching tackles though.

Some Gimp on the Lincoln board seems to think Taylor their forward could sign for town. I think he's putting 2 and 2 together and getting his sister.

Stop guessing people it could be anything (apart from iliotibial band syndrome!!!) Wait till Monday.

Mate ITBS is an absolute illegitimate. Im in the Army and had it earlier this year in January, knee killed after any run over 2 miles. Took 3 months rest, a decent foam roler, a gate analysis, some trainer moulds and a decent physio to get rid .... so hope he aint got that lol

What is obvious is that the rumour has snowballed on here, as usual, and that nobody has actually said to Liam "Sorry, you're out for 6 months/the season". Give it until Monday, hopefully just a 4 to 6 weeks thing at worst, and let's get the rest of the team sorted. For all the strength in the new squad and of the recent benches at games, we'll hopefully thrive with a smaller team selection and a bit more of a settled team. Hopefully

Why bring in new faces - Cook , Pearson - if you are not going to play them up front if an injury occurs?

Some of the front combinations haven't gelled yet - it's still August for God's sake - we didn't seem to have a dead ball tactic for free kicks and corners for the whole of last year, so any two from five will only work when you put in the time and sort out who goes for the ball, who lays off for the pass / knock on etc.

Same applies for the back four - Pond comes in as a loanie at short notice (for fitness as well), Ford has not got to the fitness level needed yet, Miller giving support to his wife, that's real life !

Compare how we've gone this year so far to last year's start, look at Mansfield's woeful start to their season.

Moan on here if you want, but shout positive support at the game today !!

I'm stuck at work on weekend cover this afternoon, so please let me hear a Pontoon roar over the radio to cheer my lousy working afternoon up, really hoping for the first win of this season !!

I'd agree with that; daft as it sounds I can't remember a clear-cut chance created in open play against us this season.

Now we just need to stop giving away stupid free kicks and letting players shoot unopposed from the edge of the area!

Well now we find out if Scott and Hurst have done their job properly and have found the right backup in Cook and Pearson.
Their 'strength in depth' talk pre-season is now going to get put to the test.
Town to win today.

Really frustrating but hopefully he isn't out for too long. Thankfully, him being out for the season just seemed to be a rumour.

Elding got his fair share last season and Cook and Pearson have both scored plenty of goals at this level before. If we get the right service to them then there's no reason why they shouldn't do the business.

our hoofball tactics rely heavily on Hearn's pace and determination, he would be a massive loss.

Just been on radio Humberside a few minutes ago, John Tondeur said "it's not as bad as been speculated, something to do with his calf - will be out upto 1 month!!!"

Relief that it looks likely to be a month to six weeks and that the information has come from physio Dave Moore - probably the best placed to assess this injury until a scan happens. Evidently going for that scan on Monday and obviously it will look clearer then.
Also mentioned that it's not thought to be related to the previous achillies/calf/nerve problem - this is a new injury. Fingers crossed for a good diagnosis. No mention of surgery which is also positive (scan will be decisive here) and with good physiotherapy Liam could be back in October.

Sending strength and good wishes to Liam Hearn.
