What is everyone's top, greatest and most memorable games of all time?

Since I've been watching since the early nineties I must say my top five based on action, glory and entertainment has to be..

1, 2-1 v Liverpool
2, 2-1 v Bournemouth
3, 1-0 v Northampton
4, 1-0 v Tottenham
5, 6-5 v Burnley

Obviously the older of us will remember past glories and past epics..any thoughts ?

Coventry City away, FA Cup 72/73.

Hordes of Town fans - caused huge tailbacks right through Leicester.   Took the Clee Grammar coach. Town took over the entire Spion Kop - I was in a side stand - what a sight and sound from the Mariners!

Fantastic performance too: I was devastated as only a teenager could be to lose right at the death to an unfair penalty -- which, just to twist the knife further, was scored by a lad who was brought up in Blundell Avenue.

Wimbledon  away in the cup with our mate Harry Haddock

Have followed Town for all my life during the ups and downs.

My son plays for school of excellence which is so well run without any funding and can see some future stars in the lower age teams.

Tough one, so many to chose from, probably missed a few out here.

1, Town 2-1 Exeter, 1991, pure atmosphere resulting in promtion.
2, Town 6-5 Burnley, 2002? What a game!
3, Town 3-1 West Ham, 1997? Outclassed premier leauge opposition.
4, Town 1-0 Spurs, Defoe, Keane, King, Robinson, Lennon, Jenas....beaten by JP Kalala
5, Town 2-1 Bournmouth, 1998 first time at Wembley.

All to be beaten by Luton 0-4 Town, April 2013, resulting in promotion back to the FL

Not including the 2 Wembley games mine are...

Liverpool away 2-1 League Cup (2001)
Everton away 1-0 League Cup (1984)
Newcastle away 1-0 League (1992)
Exeter home 2-1 League (1991)
Reading away 2-1 FA Cup Replay (1989)
Middlesborough away 2-1 FA Cup (1989)

I know that's 6 but couldn''t decide between the Middlesboro and Reading games.

The Newcastle game in 92 was cracking and ended up getting free beer all night from a Sunderland fan and the boro game was cracking. Was stood on the holgate end at ayresome park and seem to remember my unclemhavingmto shut me up when mark north ( ) scored

I was only talking someone the other day about the coppers helmet being knocked when we played Stoke, both games were mental, did we draw 0-0 at their place to clinch promotion? Did the Stoke invade the pitch during the game?

Loved the game v Stoke 91/92 at BP FAF

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Both games were mental. The home game my mate got a roof slate whacked across his head. And the away game my long standing memories are the fire in the seats behind the terrace and the nutter throwing the corner flag in the away end!

Needed to beat Exeter for promotion in the final game, and gt tat as one of my to 5 too!

Interesting to see the games nominated....Result v Performance.
Some of them I would agree are the greatest Town games of all time others I would put as the greatest Town RESULTS
I did not enjoy the Exeter game, second half was a nightmare, we were not the normal Town and IMO were lucky. That season I thought the Huddersfield game was a lot better and had in effect the same result, because if we hadn't have won it we wouldn't have gone up.

Very true. But, we DID win it and got promoted. Therefore making it a great town game!

Don't know if it was supposed to be performance related

Exeter (Home) 1971/72.

Everton (Home) League Cup 1979/80. Brolly Reigns (Headline in the Telegraph?)

Barnsley (Home) Good Friday 1982. 2-0 down won 3-2.

Liverpool (Away) 2001. Jevvo!

Millwall (Away) 1983 6-1. FA Cup after going one down. We stopped cheering after 3...

1) Middlesbrough Away FA Cup 2-1. Marc North as supersub. When we equilised with 20 mins left we got the ball out of the goal and put it on the centre spot just showed how well we'd played. Alexander giving Pallister a torrid time. How sad North and Alexander are no longer with us.
2) Everton Home League Cup 2-1. Mirror headline, Everton knew it was not a night to be without a Brolly.
3) Arsenal Home FA Cup 3-4. YES A DEFEAT. Enjoyed this as typical old fashioned cup tie played on a frozen pitch. Would have got a result but Batchy had a bad day with his wall and Charlie Nicholas.
4) Huddersfield Division 3 4-0. We were unplayable. Cockerill at his best.
5) Liverpool League cup 2-1. Result based and what a peformance by Danny Coyne.

I'll most probably think of some others that should have been in there later.

Agree with barra on the firstv three.....

Exeter (Home) 1971/72. 3-0. the great Matt Tees.

Everton (Home) League Cup 1979/80. Brolly Reigns (Headline in the Telegraph?)

Barnsley (Home) Good Friday 1982. 2-0 down won 3-2. Joe Waters at his very best.

Then the two Wembley wins, though the 1980 Chapionship winning performance v Sheff U deserves an honorable mention.

If memory serves me right wasn't that the year we swapped ends and was put in the Osmond end I was in the Osmond Corner?

Anyway yeah our defense could not handle Charlie he ran us ragged Batchy gave up on the last goal he looked well pizzed off.

BTW did Sam Fox (Charies girlfriend at the time) get her mammaries out like the fans suggested if so I missed that bit lol

I'm a bit surprised no one else has mentioned the Reading FA Cup replay in 1989.

For me that was one of the best atmosphere at a Town game ever. A Wednesday night with an 8 o'clock kick off, They were a Division above us and most people thought we'd had our chance at home when we drew 1-1. Plus, with the 5th Round draw having already been made we knew that the winner had a trip to the FA Cup Holders Wimbledon.

I expected there to be 3 or 400 Town fans there but we filled the away end (must have been best part of 1500). It was just before the mass Harry Haddock craze took off but there were loads of different inflateables there that night and the Town fans sang for almost all the game.

Shaun Cunnington put us 1-0 (the image of him climbing the fence in front of the Town fans will always stay with me), but with time running out they equalised (I think it was Steve Moran). The Town players were dead on their feet and if it had gone to Extra-Time there was only going to be one winner so when Kevin Jobling was put through one on one late on and kept his nerve to score, that was one of the most celebrated Town goals ever I think.

It definitely left a lifelong impression on me that night.

Yes, I was theer that night and can still see Jobling running through to score . Great moment. In terms of celebration I remeber being close to where Macca came over and celebrated when he scored at Cambridge a few yeras ago. Fantastic memories.

I'd also throw into the pot the night we knocked Villa out of the League Cup at Villa Park. It was a two legged afair and we drew 1-1 to go through.

Actually we Town fans are lucky to have so many great memories. I think we may get a few more from the current team. I can see us going up this year and going straight to the top of L2 next season.!

Just for the record, the 6-5 win over Burnley was a game of two pisspoor defences and nothing special IMHO of course.

We beat them away 3-2 twice that season in The FA Cup and later on in the league.

I remember the FA Cup game, they were 2-1 up with 90 minutes up but we scored twice in injury time. They were just announcing on the tannoy details of tickets and travel to Sheffield United in the next round. The 3 Kevins scored for us that night. (Moore, Kilmore and Drinkell)

It was the league game I think later that season when we were 3-0 up and Kev Moore got sent off.

It's going to be mentioned and has been tons but yeah the win against Liverpool. Heart stopping every time Coyne performed heroics and then the most exciting finish to top it all off.

Also a random game against Notts Forrest i always remember being really good. I believe the final score was 4:3 to us and they had Beasent in goal. Just remember i completely lost my voice from all the shouting during an end to end game.

Got a feeling Beasant got sent off that match and we went 4-2 up, conceded to make it 4-3 and went into panic mode.

Too many games to mention and most of them have been covered. The comeback against Barnsley is a particular favourite.

A couple of games that stick in the memory for me were actually deafeats but the opposition were superb. The game when West Ham took a very good Grimsby side apart and David Cross scored 4 for them. Think we had a measly home defensive record up to that point, only letting in a handful of goals all season 'til the Hammers arrived.

Also a Ray Houghton inspired Fulham absolutely played us off the pitch one season, They were like a well oiled machine.

Another game that sticks in my mind and never gets a mention is the 3-1 home win against a very good Coventry side in the League cup. The pass and move football we played that night was some of the best i have ever witnessed. Remember being sat up in the Findus stand watching us drag them all over the place. Fantastic.

Anyone know if any footage exists of that game?

Don't want to take your money but Rothmans Year Book states Livvo 2, Allen 1

Just looked at the goal times and both scored in the last minute Livvo got the equiliser and Allen the winner.

They wouldn't have to travel though because the winners were at home to Sheff Utd

To be honest, i can't remember that particular goal, but we won 3-1 and lost the second leg 3-0, so going out 4-3 on aggregate.

Dave Smith and Steve Livingstone were in the Coventry team and the replay was memorable for Kevin Drinkell scoring on his debut for Coventry.

Surprised nobody has mentioned the away game at Burnley that took us to Wembley.  All I remember is the ball leaving Kev Donovan's boot and going absolutely mental.

Both 78/79. The Darlo game my mate missed the first half and we didn't let on with the score. The poor sod saw us lose the second half 2-1. John Stone scored for them that night.

The Rochdale game was my 21st. birthday and I fell asleep on the steps of the old ABC cinema (where McDonald's is for the younger element) and missed the bus.
