Cannot believe that decision, what is that meant to do for Hannahs self belief!? He's effectively been told he's 4th choice.

I think it's down to the quality of the pitch and they have decided to play two centre forwards that are strong in the air.

I've yet to see anything from LJL to suggest that he is any better than what we already had at the club.

Ross is a TEAM player...the whole squad share this mentality and the man that didn't has been released!

It will spear him on to earn his place again.

Great so we've resigned ourselves to hoofing the ball tonight then, a tactic i've seen worked a grand total of 0 times this season. This could be fun.

Me neither, I'm not happy with the team selection tonight. I know the managers see the lads train everyday but why pay 30k for Ross Hannah then make him 4th choice behind some ex Lincoln no mark? I've seen nowt in this John Lewis chap, don't know why we signed him.

Perhaps there are concerns about the pitch so we're going long tonight but there must be a problem with Brodie? He's been excellent and loves a battle?

(waits for John Lewis to score and for me to get hammered).

Strange decision, me personally would of kept the same team but start with devitt.I dont like the idea of having him on the bench, at the end of the day no body has the devine right to walk into the side but he is a league1 class player and being on the bench and brought off all the time isnt a good thing come the end of the season if we are hoping to sign him up

But we already have proven quality in his position. With the best striker in the division about to return as well? Baffling signing if you ask me.

This! Hope the lad goes on to prove us all wrong and bags a few but even if we are setting up for Hoofball surely Brodie would still be the better option? Puzzling decision!

Willing to give the lad a chance but puzzling sums it up...

This lad was starting games in League One a few games ago tho. He's no mug.

Well i hope LJL scores and shuts the drama queens up.

Its the managers choice and lets be honest they have rarely got it wrong so far.

Got to admit, its the first time in a while i've disagreed with a team selection...LJL has done nothing to really suggest he is any better than Hannah or Brodie although we could argue we have strength to come off the bench.

A strange one...

To me it seems that the pitch conditions have dictated this selection. No point in playing through balls on a bog-like pitch. The managers did say they would look to rest some players, which to me suggests why Brodie is on the bench! Why do people have to find a cynical reason why players aren't picked?

That's what I was thinking, but I was looking on the bright side.  That's a helluva strong bench.  If anything goes wrong, we've got a lot of quality to fall back on.

Haha reading all this is funny, god i hope he scores now lol, previously league one player who quite a few Bury fans rated and Paul Hurts described as "a real handfull for defenders" i reckon he has something to offer and as silly as it sounds being that the league should be our priority they might be resting a few for saturday.

Starting with Hannah, Brodie or whoever, we always start very slowly and often ride our luck for the first 15 minutes. Maybe LJL is a better option for getting straight into them. Hope so, or else we seem destined to always start slugglishly.

Sounds like the pitch is in bad condition, so more than likely the reason we're starting LJL?

Just wondering if anything was happening in the game, instead of all this wittering about team selection, we all have our team that we would put out. Leave it to the managers they haven't let us down yet.

Starting badly seems to have become a bit of a trend. Plenty of time to turn it round but this team selection needs vindication.

all this tough muddy conditions is boring me.... both sides are playing in it Daley seems to find it easy enough to drift through and ping shots at will so it obviously not that bad a surface,

If we don't improve quickly and markedly they're going to face justifiable criticism over the team selection.

changing it for the sake of changing it.

sounds like the pitch is excrement so cook and brodie would have been more suited.

Brodie starts and starts to score, playing well and we are winning with him.

We then decide now is the time to flipping experiment with a player who's shown nothing to prove he's any better. Not often i've been drunk at these two this season but i'm quite frankly miffed.

This team loves doing it the hard way.

Christ you all wanted him sacked a few months ago. 6th place finish and he's now the messiah and can do no wrong
Update:  I think I've got this right - He was the messiah. He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly

Sounds toss. We need changes at half time to rescue this. I think Tondeur's commentary always makes a poor performance sound even more anxious/disappointing.

Try putting yourself in the managers shoes.  We have games coming up, Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, rinse and repeat.  They are obviously rotating the squad with this in mind.  I've never seen so many whingers on this forum as there are now, and we are top of the League!

i'm not putting any players down, I just thought we should have always started Hannah since re-buying him as he has already proved he can score vital goals and he was our top goal scorer on his loan period, why leave him out?!

I'd be suprised if they made any half time subs, doesn't seem their style
Although they really need to change their style because we havn't got time to be giving players a chance to get into form or blend into the team, when we are 9 points clear then give LJL a start not away at braintree on a rubbish pitch when we've missed two league games in a row

I understand changing it but surely Hannah was the obvious choice given that his pairing with cook is proven...

i think your missing the point most have made, that our top scorer has been overlooked once again and LJL been given the nod upfront

The point I am making is we are top of the League, where we have been for a good part of the season. I wouldn't second guess a management team that has put us in that position, lets see what the second half brings ok?

Try putting yourself in the managers shoes.  We have games coming up, Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, rinse and repeat.  They are obviously rotating the squad with this in mind.  I've never seen so many whingers on this forum as there are now, and we are top of the League!

Spot on BAWB.  Thank god we are top, I hate to think what people would be saying if we were 2nd or something!

when we are 9 points clear then give LJL a start not away at braintree on a rubbish pitch when we've missed two league games in a row

Maybe it's BECAUSE of the rubbish pitch ?
Anyway I wouldn't have done it - if you're gonna start him why not in the Trophy ?

But we should remember it's all too easy to judge when you can't see what's going on.
tbf don't think you can really blame it on him - the whole performance sounds poor.
It's all Braintree !

Sounds like another slow start but this time, we've paid the price.
Kick up the @rse HT and a 2-1 win please.

I'd feel better with Richard Brodie on the pitch and Jamie Devitt to take his penalties.

Former Grimsby Town striker/winger Junior Mendes (who was a rather terrible January signing in our last semi-successful season)

No changes! Surprising. I thought we might have seen Devitt and Brodie for Colbeck and LJL, especially with LJL being booked. God knows what they're playing at with Hannah.

To the guy that said "put yourselfs in the managers shoes/rotating the squad, etc"

They've made one change, and it was to take a striker thats been scoring and playing well out, and instead of bringing our top scorer off the bench for him to get him back in the squad, theyve brought on someone who (in an unfair way but when you are at the top and have all these inform up front players) who hasn't really looked good in his fairly breif appearances. If southwell was limited to mostly 10 minute apperances to prove himself, before dropping down the roster, why does LJL get a start after two or three (can't even remember) indifferent apperances.

We've got good managers but if we lose who could blame us for asking questions (although there are some commentators that will do exactly that)

This game would have suited the likes of brodie and wood. Yet LJL and hatton have both struggled and been booked. We should have started lennell and ross hannah in the trophy second leg. Als

This is daft.
You cant really blame a striker for the fact weve let a goal in though.

The players and managers have a lot of questions to answer tonight. They've let themselves down and have been distracted by the semi-final at the weekend even after claiming their focus was entirely on tonight's match. We must recover strongly from this awful result.

15mins left. Enough time to grab a draw.....

For me the managers take full responsibility for the outcome, based on selections and the baffling unwillingness to make appropriate substitutions. You just know that Rob Scott is going to come over very badly in the aftermatch.

It is a load of b*ll*cks this squad rotation, why change a team around just because we have to play twice a week. They are supposed to be fit players, they only have to work for 180 minutes a week so they don't need a rest they get half a day off everyday I don't get that from work and I along with a good few more have to work about 50 hours a week. You should not change a winning side just ask the successful managers in football.

We all have off days, maybe a reality check that we needed to re focus and re group.  Run had to end but disappointed that we seem to have played so poorly.

Still time left to get something.  Keep the faith!

For me the managers take full responsibility for the outcome, based on selections and the baffling unwillingness to make appropriate substitutions. You just know that Rob Scott is going to come over very badly in the aftermatch.

Well you say that but since he came on I haven't heard Hannah's name mentioned.

have hardly heard any names mentioned to be fair, don't think tondeur has been able to see the pitch for about 20 minutes swear he's said about 3 things that have actually happened in the game in the last 20 minutes, zoned out to what else he's talking about

Its another poor performance against a side down the bottom, why do we seem to struggle against the poorer teams?

Credit where credits due, we've had a long unbeaten run that had to end somewhere. Hopefully its a reality check, but some players are just not doing it consistently enough.

Dont understand the selection, but its all about bouncing back now, a league game on Saturday would have been better

Just the risk is now that we look forward to the next league game too much and overlook the dartford game and have a nervy 90 minutes against dartford

Or may be we get Saturday out of the way and put it to the back of our minds for a few weeks...

I recall Wrexham having a hard time against a couple of the teams down the bottom too...

Just hope we bounce back from this poor display, to be fair this is our 1st loss since November 2012 so i suppose we was always going to have a blip some time, Hope they learn from this, I'd rather have a blip now instead of March/April.

Fair play to those who went tonight because that sounded effing dreadfull! I'd forgotten how miserable it was listening to urine poor away games and getting beat while playing soooooooo badly.

I was there, the day Bradley Wood scored a 35 yarder!

From the black and white striped shirts
To the fish in the sea
You'll hear us singing
Coz we are Grimsby.

You won't hear us crying
But you'll hear us shout
Coz we are the Grimsby
And this is our chant.......... Grimsby! Grimsby! Grimsby!

I don't think they should be slated, but they will take credit when they get it right and should expect to field fair questions that might be awkward or critical in situations like tonight, and deal with this this without being peevish and defensive/aggressive. I almost hope that Hurst gives the aftermatch interview. Make no mistake, this is a potentially very costly slip-up and a massive wasted opportunity in the quest for auto promotion and you have to ask questions about the thinking behind the selections and many of the individual performances.

One day that team will click and hammer somebody but they start so slowly it is disappointing because we have so many decent players in the squad. Do you think the management know which is our best side?

Feck the cup this is the most important game our run in as a lot of away games left this is going to be a real cliff hanger.

Before anyone goes off on one, I heard that chant over the radio.  JT said it was Town fans but I think he got it wrong.  After all, how many Town fans would sing Top of the League having a larf?

Christ you all wanted him sacked a few months ago. 6th place finish and he's now the messiah and can do no wrong
Update:  I think I've got this right - He was the messiah. He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly

That's a tad harsh

Before tonight we had lost just two games away from home (Fleetwood and Hyde) since our defeat at Ebbsfleet in October 2011

Dear Me! Not you as well!! I've seen everyone of those games (except Barrow away) and I cannot think of a single one where we "didn't compete". We even competed at Hyde albeit only for half an hour

I don't buy this...

From the commentary (so bearing in mind JT 's negative vibes) it was our worst performance of the season but why on earth would they go out tonight thinking about Wembley which is more than a month away IF we get there

Doesn't make sense....can lifting the trophy really be going through Disley's mind when he put that one wide when through on goal or when he left the ball from the corner where they scored the second.

Of course not....no real explanation imho other than the starting eleven should probably have stayed the same as Cook and Brodie were starting to get to know each other whereas LJL hasn't bedded in with anyone yet

If ever there is going to be a game you lose, it's likely to be on a damp Tuesday night in February playing on a mudbath, a few days before a match which could see the team reach a Wembley final. Thankfully, we've not lost too many of the awkward games this season. The thing we need to do is get back into the swing of things in the League straight away after Saturday's game, regardless of the result.

I've been out tonight so have only just got in and seen the score, along with much moaning about team selection, wailing and gnashing of teeth. Looking at the starting team, it was hardly all that radical a selection, was it? Just one difference to Saturday and, though we've not seen much as yet from LJL, the fact that the managers have been chasing him for some time would indicate he must have something about his game.

Personally, I'd have given Hannah a start tonight but I'd imagine the management thought a more powerful player might be more effective on a heavy pitch. Sounds as though most of them were well below-par though I look forward to hearing more about the game other than simply, "we were rubbish". I'll look out for the "Just Back" threads with interest.

I stand by my comments from 2 weeks back:

We don't control the midfield and don't take games by the scrub of the neck and dominate games like top of the table sides do.

This has been coming for quite a while, we've ridden our luck, especially in more recent games.

I personally would look to bring someone in to the middle of the park.

I also don't think we create enough chances going forward - add into this mix playing a striker who has a poor goalscoring record (LJL) and this kind of result was going to happen sooner or later.

Hopefully we will learn from this.

A very pragmatic and calm interview by Scott - I was expecting a much more snappy affair

Seems willing to defend his players - a world away from the Newport game shortly after they took over.

I suspect the players have heard how he really feels.

The aim of argument or discussion should not be victory but progress.

That's a tad harsh

Before tonight we had lost just two games away from home (Fleetwood and Hyde) since our defeat at Ebbsfleet in October 2011

The more pertinent question is how many have we won? 17 away goals is one of the lowest in the entire league.

I still maintain that our away form is average in terms of points gained for a side at the top.

Don't know why you're all surprised. Our away performances are average at best. Too many draws and defeats to sides we should be taking points from. We don't even compete in a lot of them.

After the Ebbsfleet game last season, in the league it was W6 D7 L1

Before tonight, this season in the league it was  W5 D7 L1

So while I take your point there have been a lot of draws on the road, to be honest, from those 27 away games, if this form was factored out across a season (about 1.74 points per game) we would have gained 40 points

It's only my opinion but to me that is way better than average at best...
