I doubt it, he can't be in two places on matchdays can he? I'd imagine preparing goalkeepers on matchdays is one of the most important roles. Besides, a Championship club would surely want a full time Goalkeeper coach.

In the interview with McKeown last week he specifically mentioned that Crichton won't be there on matchdays

I thought Paul was a freelance coach and as such may be working for more than one club. However if he is offered a decent full time job he might just take it. Nothing wrong or suspicious about that. Most people would do the same.

Part of me wants to say this is probably an area we can afford to cut a few corners with.

Goalkeepers don't do specialised training all week so why employ someone solely on that basis when for two days a week they might be virtually redundant.
That said, if we're only have one goalkeeper at the club it's essential he's kept on his toes.  Added to the fact a goalkeeping coach who isn't there on match days isn't going to see the areas for improvement needed in a goalkeeper.

When Croudson was here it was ideal as he was there for match days and did everything above and beyond his role.  The question is can the club afford to employ someone to act as goalkeeping coach (in a full time capacity, even if they undertake other duties), or more importantly can they afford not to?

Thats loyalty for you!
In all seriousness, in this economic climate, people need to look after number 1 first I suppose. Personally, I like to see a bit of old fashioned loyalty and morals in place but I guess it's not always practical. UTM

In fact, contrary to belief, Goalkeeping specific coaching is vital at Grimsby Town, you'll find that Stevie Croudson used to spend 80% of his time alone with the goalkeepers, working on specifics, before allowing them to go with the rest of the team.
I can imagine a goalkeeper coach would have been a deterring factor in Mckeown signing a new contract, i'd expect one to be brought in.

I am sure there is more than one goalkeeper coach out there,

Who will want to come to Grimsby a couple of days a week,

Do Scunthorpe have a full time coach ?

We could share one with them,

OR

Maybe Hull has a coach who could come over or Macca and the boys go to Hull one day a week.
