Would you wait until 60ish minutes to possibly bring off Paddy for Ross Hannah or do it now? Can't think who else you'd want to bring off from the remaining midfielders?

Sending-Off was a complete joke & ruined the game as far as a contest was concerned
Did it? There were times when Grimsby retained possession so well and came at us so strongly that I had to remind myself they were a man down.



First yellow was soft (maybe for a bit of verbal....ffs get over it ref)
The laws of the game dictated that John-Lewis was booked. It's nothing to do with the ref needing to "get over it"! Dissent is rife in the game and I applaud any moves to get rid of it


The club should definitely appeal


Clubs can't appeal a dismissal for two bookings unless it's a case of mistaken identity. Given that you're usually so pedantic about such things, I'm surprised you don't know that!




lets just face it was a booking, the attacker was a way.. the ref read it perfectly.. grimsbee have poor character and discipline .. but maybe they will finish a few places below us- they may even stay in this league if they can improve in the transfer window...

Why aren't players taught from the onset of their interest in playing football that referees are autonomous (independent of others) and as such have the last word when it comes down to the law of the game.
We are ready to accept that if you put your fingers near a fire they will get burnt, the same analogy applies to taking on officials who control the rules of the game.
Take them on at your peril. They may get it wrong occasionally, that's life nobody is perfect, but their authority is sacrosanct (regarded as too important or valuable to be interfered with).
Every Manager should have a session with his players pointing this out.
I'm a little surprised at some of the comments on here, I hope the above comments will make it perfectly clear where I stand on this one.
P.S. Spectators are aloud to dance around the fire, that's part of the entertainment, as long as we understand the playing area is the fire.

Grimsbee are crying out for a clinical marksman and decent finisher in midfield.. maybe a cb who can do things in the opponents box. This reminds of England in the world cup when we controlled matches and outplayed Italy and paragwhy only to have no firepower up front. Cue the usual dissenters. After they got rattle they lost their heads and show they have poor character when the going gets tough against the decent sides like us. It looks like the usual chickens have come home to roost for Grimsbee..

Spot on, it wasn't the foul that got him sent off, it was the gobbing off earlier. The ref warned him a couple of times prior to the 1st booking, I fail to see what Ian's rant is about, in my opinion, Grimsby were resorting to the typical Northerner trait of trying to bully the ref. Unfortunately for Grimsby, their player wouldn't give up. One thing that must be applauded is the discipline of our players, a couple of times they could have got involved in a bit of handbags stuff but they kept their heads.

My opinion of Grimsby is that they were a capable team but also an accident waiting to happen – everything is fine while they are playing easy teams, but when things don’t go their way they were unable to keep a lid on things. When the first couple of attempts on goal came to nothing, they began arguing every decision, and yellow cards were clearly going to be a feature of the game. This is a serious issue for them, and now every other team they meet will know and exploit that character flaw.

As for the sending off, the second yellow card was right in front of me in the North stand. Fitch was going past John-Lewis. There then followed a routine foul that you will see in almost every match – rather than let the attacker get away from him, the defender routinely takes one for the team by tripping, shirt tugging or in this case hauling back the attacker. There is nothing malicious about it, but a routine yellow card then follows. A soft (and idiotic) way to get sent off, but completely right and fair.

He is right in saying yellow cards were clearly going to be a feature of the game but hasn't mentioned it was very one sided decisions by the ref, Even the Aldershot commentators remarked that they were surprised that at least four of the Shot's players hadn't been booked and wasn't even cautioned. Perhaps the ref was an ex squaddie and has fond memories of Aldershot. Can anyone think of any good reasons why a ref would be so biased ?

Perhaps LJL's not the greatest goalscorer ever but think there's more weak links when he's NOT in.
Maybe that's why there's talk of getting a big striker in. (presumably to hold the ball up when he's absent)

Like Hurst keeps saying "it's what he brings to the team" and would completely agree.
It's not just about goalscoring by any means. (and tbf he has scored 3.5 recently...)
