Although we have had 2 great results we have lacked a lot this season,
1. We did not appeal Neilson's red card so we lost him for the 1st 3 games,
2, We have lacked in the strikers role, only 3 on the books and now 2 injured,
3. We have let strikers leave who are now scoring regularly,
4. We had a striker on trail who since we released him has scored 3 goals at this level,
5, We signed a really pacey winger who we have tracked for 2 years but do not start with him,
The common denominator is ?

When John-Lewis leaves he'll probably score 30 a season elsewhere. Footballs full of players proving former clubs wrong,

You don't really believe that. He's never proved any former club wrong.

Christ on a bike, yet another "Let's have a bash at Hurst" thread.
It is now reaching the height of ridiculousness that the failure to sign Ironside is seen as a mistake when he looked pretty hopeless when on trial with us! I can only imagine the wailing and gnashing of teeth that would have gone on here if we'd signed him, especially after we had signed Clay who was apparently going to be our worst ever midfielder, if you believe some of the comments on this board.
Other than the ineffectual Connell, our strikers who have played in most games have scored 4 and 3 goals respectively which is decent enough return. Ironside is obviously doing well enough for Alfreton but has also started all but one of their games. The simple fact is that, if we had signed him, he'd be getting a chance now, but probably wouldn't have made a start otherwise because he would have been further down the pecking order than the other senior strikers.
Also, let's have a dig for not playing Mackreth even though the general consensus is that he's been pretty disappointing in his performances so far! You can't have it both ways.

Yep, don't disagree that it's an error for us not to have signed at least one other striker before now.

The reason we are in this mess goes a long way back but the most recent aberration appears to be basing your strikeforce around a striker that doesn't score, a striker that rarely scores from anything other than a penalty and spends a fair percentage of time offside and a striker who spends a considerable amount of time on the treatment table.

Harsh but so true, this year IMO we have gone a long way to improve the midfield but now have a weakness up front,( Pitmans injury excepted)

It's up to the manager to get a good solid squad together at the start of the season , He has failed to do that, He started off well in bringing Toto and Brown in early, Then it stopped and we were scratching round trying to find a striker or two, If you want to get promotion the goal scorers are the first ones top clubs sign, So we never was and we are not about to sign that 20+ goal a season striker, UNLESS We pay out some money for him. So does John put his hand in his pocket again to bail Hurst out or do we wait another season to sign that player. ?

It seems pretty obvious that Hurst was expecting to sign Jennings, Bogle, or possibly both. We don't know what went on behind the scenes there but he has obviously been caught out and this has left us very light up front, especially as Arnold still isn't fit. Something which needs to be dealt with at some stage so I hope we see a 'couple of bodies in the building' sooner rather than later.

All so obvious now , just tryjng to shut the stable door . So it's now a matter of damage limitation . Unfortunately I think we have hit the road of no return . Wonder what the players are thinking now , going out knowing that the tactics are wrong and players are getting dropped to accommodate senior members .

The thing is ,do the board back P.H. with funds to get a decent striker or sack him.Either way it is going to cost money. But balance that by gate receipts lost due to poor performances and the money saved by not paying P.H. off I would say the decision was obvious, unless they have no confidence in Hurst turning around. Unless some action is taken this week one way or another this season can be written off.Time for action from the Board.

He's only scored 29 in his entire career, including cup games and that has took him 8 seasons. I know i'm not allowed to criticise but i'm just stating the facts.
