57 Mins in footage of a Town game. Not sure when it was or who the opposition were. Shows the old pontoon stand

Estuary TV are showing several games from the higher divisions' golden days - full house, loads of noise, plenty of accurate passing - happy memories !

You forget how many times that Tony Rees laid the ball off on standing one / two passes, and made defenders look like mugs !!

Enjoyed a West Brom 4-1 thumping the other evening - shame I only have the Freeview on the kitchen tv !!

That's a strange one isn't it? Shows more of the main stand than anywhere else and there's quite a small crowd which would be unusual for the 1920s/30s.

Also, both sides appear to be playing in quartered shirts, no stripes on view. Town didn't play in quarters after WW1 so is it actually Town playing? Possibly a local cup final or a Lincs cup final?

Great clip! Is that Grimsby Pete stood in the main stand at 100.14?

Apparently, this was when we first identified the need for a new ground (after Blundell Park).

Loved it, very interesting bit of film. I notice the quality of the football highlights where as good then as they are today.

If you look at the bathing pool footage you can see that everyone seemed to be lithe and well toned. I suppose people got out a lot more then.

Got to be post-war judging by the clothes spectators are wearing and also the style of the football kits. I'd say somewhere in the 50s. But which one is Town?! Not obvious, but I think I've seen a kit that was mainly white shirts with a bit of black on it.
