First of, yes I am involved with this.

I would be really interested to know peoples' opinions on the proposed site:

http://www.grimsbytelegraph.co.uk/Concerns-high-end-beer-store-plan/story-26851059-detail/story.html

If you are in favour, then a comment on the telegraph website would be greatly appreciated. If you are against it, then PM me or email me and I would be happy to answer any questions / concerns you may have.

"Crime, disorder and harm to schoolchildren" and it will "attract the wrong sort of people (alcoholics)". We really don't like change around here do we? Can't you be the anchor tenants at Peaks Parkway to really urine them off?

I've added a comment to the site. Like most people, I love my home town but it's so fcking frustrating to see the backward-thinking fear of change that holds it back. The council have been tripping up the town's football club for so many years it shouldn't really be a surprise that local small businesses trying to achieve something face similar nimby scaremongering.

I'm staggered by the opposition to this. If it were a bar, i could understand it but people who use this place would be just beer enthusiasts. The residents make it sound like there will be hordes of drunks standing outside necking beer. Second hand tat shops abound in town now and we could do with more specialist outlets. I well remember the riotous drunken behaviour when Small Beer was trading. It was appalling.

I'm all for it and will be a customer for sure if and when it's up and running.

Yeah, I'd heard about this petition before this report (I work around the corner from the place). Bloody ridiculous, of course, and it is particularly amusing that one of the comments against it seems to be from the owners of Halletts (NISA Today) next door which is... an off licence!

Though I think much of the 'Craft beer' scene is a bit wanky, to say the least, I hope opposition to the plans is dropped as I'd certainly nip into the place from time to time to see what they've got. Providing I don't have to grow a hipster beard and wear skinny jeans to be admitted.

Oh, it would be nice if they stocked lots of nice Belgian beers as well.

I'm 34 and still can't grow a beard and my figure is not suited to skinny jeans so no worries on that score!

Yep, I like it but my hipster klaxon nearly went off. Prefer Tall Boys in Thornton Arcade personally.

They are springing up all over now. We even have one in Shipley https://www.facebook.com/shipleytriangle

Nothing at all like this anywhere in NE Lincs. The nearest is probably Beverley or Sheffield.

Yeah it's as hipster as you like. Another couple of pints and I was definitely going to challenge the barman as to why he was wearing a woolly hat on one of the hottest days of the year. Still enjoyed it though and considering how small the bottle shop is there was a good bit of variety. The gang of teenagers outside doing glue and drinking halves of IPA ruined it a bit though.

Haven't been in Tall Boys but will have a look next time I'm in Town. Have anybody of the Leeds/Yorks based Mariners drunk anything from Roosters Brewery in Knaresborough. Had some really nice cans from there and they have one or two on tap in Friends of Ham which have all been good.

I remember drinking a pint or two of Roosters Yankee out of an oak cask at the Leeds Beer Festival in 1995. If that hipster enough?

I've had Roosters beers at various places - quite like lighter bitters and Roosters seem to produce a few of these.

If they've gone onto the trendy craft beer side of things, I can't comment. I personally reckon the craft beer scene is just a scam promulgated by hop growers as the beers all seem to have a shitload of hops chucked into them.

The Talbot Arms in Settle, currently owned by a Mariner and staffed occasionally by another, have Roosters' beers on tap semi-regularly. I'd say they're amongst the two or three most popular brewers they offer there. Londinium is on right now, as it happens; it's black as night & 5.5% - so a little niche - but delicious.

Before I transitioned to predominantly darker ales, I tended to enjoy the hoppier end of the pale/golden offerings and for this, I'd genuinely say there is no better brewer of said beers than Roosters.

It's the Yankee I've had on draft recently. I didn't know they'd been on the go that long and to be honest thought they were probably just one of the myriad new breweries popping up everywhere. To be honest it's something I know nothing about - I just like a few pints. Would usually go for IPA's and not usually keen on the really strong, hoppy stuff myself.

One golden beer we don't find up north enough is Exmoor Gold. Very nice indeed.

I got very merry on Roosters in Wetherspoons Scarborough a couple of years back. Nice beer and it's great now that there are so many places to purchase real beer nowadays. It was bleak for a good few years in the 80's and 90's for real ale lovers. I'm loving all the new light beers around now and have gone more off the darker beers the older i have got.

Fingers crossed for PSG.  He's in the hearing now. Let's hope the outbreak of silly decisions taken in the justice courts doesn't infect the council.

Delighted to say the license was approved this morning. Really positive meeting. The council have been tremendously helpful throughout. Had a good, open chat with a couple follow folk who raised objections and it was all sorted in a grown up manner.

Need to work out a fishy discount scheme now...

I saw on @MIABcleethorpes you might have Dorset Brewing Company Beers. Will be sending the family round to collect if you're stocking that. Purbeck's Dabinett Cider too please, although funnily enough it's stocked at the Oddbins next to London Bridge station!

Also, anything from Copper Dragon would be ace.

Whispers around these parts (North Yorkshire) that CD might be calling it a day; at least in current guise. (Month old news, may have since happened)

Anyway - with a fully-stocked, bespoke beer shop; unless it was in my way, I'd not look twice at a Copper Dragon bottle.

Willy's has apparently got some Exmoor Gold on draught at the moment! Need to try and find the time to nip in for a pint today.

Personally, I don't tend to drink English bitters/ales unless they are on draught as I don't think they taste nearly as good, even bottle conditioned (or in cans). Please don't go to the trouble of getting any of these in for me!

However, I don't mind the odd 'craft' beer from time to time so will nip in for a look at some point. Are you getting any foreign beer, specifically Belgian stuff or some of the more interesting German beers?

PSG has been working like a (brew) dog this week getting things ready. I can confirm having had a sneak preview of Message In A Bottle today that it's awesome, well stocked and will be open for business tomorrow 12-8pm (Saturday 3rd).

Get yourselves down there buy some great craft beer and support a fellow Fishy poster and Town fan.

P.S. PSG is gutted to be missing FGR on the day of opening.

Going good thanks. Doing a stand at Cleethorpes beer festival on Saturday so busy sorting that out, running the shop, working for the NHS in Leeds 2.5 days a week and trying to regularly remind my wife and daughter what I look like by spending time with them! Better than having nothing to do though I guess!

Had quite a few town fans in. My till has Ivano Bonetti and Kevin Donavon stickers on it and have been kindly lent some town stuff to hang on the walls.

Had my first look yesterday. Unfortunately I don't drink much at all these days-not by choice but I have to say PSG has done a fantastic job. The sheer variety on offer is amazing and displays very pleasing to the eye. Some really good ideas for Christmas presents as well. Nice to put a face to a name.
Wish you every success fella.

I had my first visit on Friday and have to say psg has done a great job. There's plenty of choice and beers from all over. I picked out three local brews for my dad for Christmas. I've been telling all the ale and beer drinkers I know to give the place a try.

The Cleethorpes Pale Ale is fab - really recommend it - I thought the Buckthorn in it off of Meggies beach would be unnoticeable but it defintelty lends a nice twang.

Also the HBB - originally brewed by Hewitts - is a lovely brew. I want one of the kegs for Xmas!

A local chap some of you may know called Jamie McDonald has done a corporate video for me:

https://youtu.be/ZvtJ39DSIxc

Something a bit different to just spamming Facebook and Twitter all the time!

Would highly recommend him for any businesses looking to do something similar. Very talented film maker and a dedicated perfectionist. He's a Town fan to boot.

PM me if you want his contact details.

I was all set to protest at the lack of any stand-up material, during what I presume is your Youtube debut, then you smashed it out the Park with a lovely, dry, closing, dry-January gag.

I haven't made it through the door yet but I hope this doesn't mean that bottle of delicious, strong, black porter hasn't made its way from its hiding place behind the counter as I'm on my way! Not today but we're in Grimsby for the evening of the 22nd and your place is high up on the hit list.

Glad to see it looking a success; the shop *and* the suave designer stubble. Pretty much the response I'm getting about my 'tache

Apologies for the blatant plug but we are having a bit of a do this weekend in the shop if anyone fancies it.

Outside we will have a mini bar from Axholme Brewing Company and will be pulling PINTS of their gorgeous Cleethorpes Pale Ale and Best Bitter.

If you don't like either of them you can just buy any of the bottles or cans in the shop and drink them on site (glasses provided and snacks available).

The temporary license is as follows:

Friday 5pm-8pm
Saturday 12pm-8pm (will have Humberside on if anyone wants to listen to the Town game!)
Sunday 12pm-4pm

Cheers

Out of pure curiosity, was your business idea remotely influenced by craft beer shop in the corn exchange, Leeds?
I know you lived in this neck of the woods and have mentioned previously you was inspired by shops here. There is certainly similarities - however I'd say yours is significantly better!

Would've definitely headed by and taken in a few beers whilst listening to Town, if I'd been over.

Huge game for us so hope the day goes well for you and you're toasting a victory come 5pm!!

Yes a little but must confess I don't go to that one (Little Leeds Beer House) that much.

There are quite a few round Leeds and the surrounding area and it just struck me that there were absolutely none back in GY. There is one just opened in Lincoln called the Crafty Bottle and there might be one opening in Louth soon. Glad I got in when I did!

I've visited the North Bar on Briggate (I think) on a few occasions in recent years to have a few eye-wateringly expensive beers.

I seem to recall that was there before the whole 'craft beer' shtick took off back when bars were often staffed by people without beards, tattoos and skinny jeans...

I could tell things were on the turn a couple of years ago when we went to a brew bar in Bristol and were told that they didn't serve pints, just two-thirds! Still managed to charge expensive pint prices, mind, and their beer wasn't up to much either.

I haven't had time to pop in to your shop yet, have you got any breweriana. The reason why I am asking is that I am looking to build a bar in a shed this summer for the garden. I've been looking on line at different projects and one involves bottle caps.

My plan is to collect enough bottle caps and beer labels so I can frame them to hang on the wall of the bar. Would you be able to source bottle caps when you order your stock because although I can drink, it's going to take some time before I get enough to make a frame

Marinerz93 - you are not the only one who is in to bottle tops - we have a regular customer who comes in who uses them to make coasters. He gets 9 bottle tops covers them in resin and then adds the non slip stuff to the bottom. They look really good if you get some of the more funky tops.

Unfortunately as we are a shop not a pub I don't have access to that many tops other than the ones I have had myself. I have a small collection in the shop if you want to have a look and help your self.

Thanks for the offer and I'll take you up on that sometime, I'll do my best to contain myself and not take the lot

I've been drinking my way through different beers and I made the mistake of buying 3 or four bottles of the same type so it's taking longer to get through them. I've now fine tuned that and I only buy one bottle of each type so I will definitely be paying you a visit in the holidays!

I also use a fork to loosen the bottle top rather than use an opener as the opener tends to damage or bend the bottle cap, how sad is that

Alternatively, find a beer you like, then drink it quite often.

I enjoy going to beer festivals, but you do tend to end up drinking some proper rotgut stuff when trying out different brews. Much the same with bottled beer!

I've more than perfected the art of drinking beer that I like and drinking it more often than I should although I'm not an alcoholic, I can give up any time I want

Not at the moment but have had a couple of conversations. Problem was having to wait till last Sunday afternoon. Not a quick thing to sort out but need it available really soon after to make it work.

Afraid the Mariners beer idea doesn't seem viable. The brewery I talked to need more notice and we both wanted it to be a quality product not a rushed crappy beer with a rushed crappy GTFC themed label.

We are having a belated promotion party at the shop this bank holiday weekend.

We have another temporary license for consumption on the premises (Fri 5pm to Sun 6pm) and will be pulling pints of Black Horse Brewery's HBB (remake of the old Hewitts beer) and Saturday Blonde. Obviously you can still buy anything off the shelves and drink that as well.

Sorry bud..only just seen this reply so missed the event...was very busy getting Cidered all weekend.

Rather than a promotion beer would a League beer be viable production wise with the timescales til August...release the beer on season kick off date?

Will it have a club badge on the bottle cap?

What will the label be?

It will have the Trust logo on and a very smart black and white striped label. Can't say too much as not seen the actual bottle yet.

It will have the Trust logo on and a very smart black and white striped label. Can't say too much as not seen the actual bottle yet.

Just reporting in to say my dad is a big fan of the shop - was talking to him at the weekend and he mentioned it out of the blue.

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

Yes, we do. They are the brewery who did the Cleethorpes Pale Ale for us. Indeed, it was Mike who picked all the sodding sea buckthorn berries off Cleethorpes beach for it!

Nice bloke who makes ace beers. Will be a real shame if he stops brewing.

Had some real nice beers this week in the Dales. It's Theakston country and I am not a fan of their beer but have had some nice brews from the Wensleydale and Daleside breweries.

Quick update on Mariners Promotion Ale:

Really disappointed to say that this is now on hold. Got messed around by a few people and we have had to start again. Really annoying as this should have been available in June. I'm working on a plan b this week as plan a was a disaster! To be clear the trust and the club are blameless.

Am down for a funeral on Wednesday, so staying down for the game on Saturday. Will pop in and get a few brews to take back with me. Wife was underwhelmed with her present last time so I had to drink them all. Very nice they were too!

Will bring you a wee something special in. I make chilli sloe gin and vodka, from sloes that I pick near our village. The chillis are Naga Bhut Jolokia, and the last lot I made was so hot it's painful. If you know anybody who likes this kind of thing - or is basically brain dead - they could be in for a treat! It's two or three years old now as I'm about the only person who can handle it......

I see there's a new 'Mariners Promotion Ale' on sale in bottles at the club this Saturday.  It looks ace.

PSG you have been busy!

Well played Mariners Trust and Message In A Bottle. And Axholme Brewing Company!

And it's a Pale Ale as well which makes a refreshing change.

Looking forward to a pint or three.

I came in on Friday but you weren't there. I mentioned that you said I could have a few beer caps and the lad that was there was very helpful. I bought 6 various bottles and reserved for collection 5 Mariner Promotion bottles. The Mariners Pale Ale is smoother than I thought it would be, and I am glad I read the instructions 'poor with care'. I generally only read the labels after I have drunk it to see if I could taste any extra ingredients.

Nice layout and great service and I'll definitely be coming back, I can see you needing bigger premises at some point in the future!

Dave.

For lovers of good beer check out this company http://www.beatnikzrepublic.com.

The lad who set it up is a town fan living in London. His beers are available at Message in a Bottle.

He's also crowdfunding to try and buy his own kit http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/beatnikz-republic

Gipsey Hill Brewery near me looks to be taking off. They have a few tables inside the brewery and let you sit inside drinking their beer (if you buy it). Near their closing time the three of us still there drinking got a guided tour of their new expanded brewhouse. Might be one to look out for!

First time I've ever been to a brewery and they didn't have any of their own beers on tap though! Mostly because they'd only just finished installing all the new kit and had to stop brewing for a few weeks.
