They tell you loads of stories on that course at Cottesmore like the bloke who said only applications in white envelopes, CVs on no more than two sheets of top quality paper stuck together with a silver paper clip using only a particular font would be accepted. He binned the rest and was left with two CVs to pick between. Not sure I believe it to be honest.

I am in the job market myself. CVs on request for an ex-RAF Avionics Technician.

I'm not a recruiter but I do look at CV's and interview in my job. What is true is that you tend to skim CV's very quickly and I find I look for reasons not to interview so spelling errors, awful layout etc can see the end of the line. I would bespoke your CV to every job you apply for and match it to the job requirements listed. I'd also cut any waffle and keep it as focussed as possible.

Only other things I'd add are firstly, if you've had a period out of work, don't just leave it blank, refer to what you were doing in that time - actively seeking work, training etc. A big void of unaccounted for time can ring alarm bells. Secondly if you've had a period where you've gone through loads of short periods of employment I'd consider omitting some of these. It can again cause a bit of concern if it looks like somebody has had hundreds of jobs and changed every coupld of months. if it was a period of various temp roles then I'd think about covering that as one role on your CV and just explaining it was various short term positions whilst you were looking for a full time job. Finally, think about layout, font, colours etc It really can be off putting if a CV is horrible to look at so make it nice and easy to look at and read.

Unless you spent a year smoking weed and playing FIFA. If you did that, make something else up.
