Think that must have been why the goal against Derby was disallowed.

sounds pretty confusing to me ( and I refereed a decent standard )... if a guy is deemed to be
interfering with play , any goal should be disallowed... end of....

Reminds me of what the late great Brian Clough said,
"If  a player isn't interfering with play, then what the hell is he doing on the pitch"

A minor tweak which will make a difference on just a few occasions. No doubt there will still be plenty of errors by referees who decide that players standing in an offside position in the middle of the box aren't interfering with play, but it might save a few complaints.

Now, I wonder if they will do anything about the ridiculous shirt-pulling and wrestling you get at practically every set piece these days?

Nah, doubt it. That would be too sensible.

I always find it strange that in practically every single shirt pulling  " incident " its
nearly always the forward who gets penalised... never see any penalties..... odd that....

They'd do much better clearing up the corner routine which has somehow manifested into all in wrestling these days. The blocking off of the keeper while an assortment of players push/pull/grapple just inside the box makes corners means the whistle is probably not too far away.

That's a fairly sexist remark Rob

This briefing for referees on the new offside amendment will be wasted on some refs who have still not yet got to grips with  the rule on "the keeper handling outside the penalty area and preventing a goal".

To be fair I think that's exactly what this tweak to the rules is doing. They had it so that you were only interfering if you went to play the ball, now they're just aligning the definition of "interfering" to be what we all really know it means.
