Thought I'd have a look.

Same as last season. Wouldn't say we are written off as we caught up last year at one point before tailing off, but can't ignore the fact that Barnet were top after six and finished top.

For the optimists - look at the serious challenge Brizzle ended up mounting.
For the pessimists - we had faced one team that been relegated/promoted to the conference vs two promoted teams and none relegated so far this year.

2013/4 season as well for comparison, check out Luton.

Well done for this. Far too sensible, reasoned and balanced for the Fishy at the moment I would suggest.

It's an interesting comparison but we're not competing against last year's table. We had the same amount of points this season after 6 games, but were 3 points further behind.

Progress on last year. Whatever the opposite word to progress (degress?) is on the previous year. Then last season we did better than the season before. Overall - no significant difference.

Sadly we didn't get promoted in either year.

Sorry. Interesting but meaningless. Anything can be proven with statistics.

This season is all that counts.

Playing devil's advocate if that was the case then the argument that seems to be doing the rounds of "same old Town, Hurst hasn't improved us, he always does this" etc also don't hold water.

Last year we were 6 points off the top after 6 games. This year we were 9 off the top after 6 games, which became 12 after the 7th game.

I feel a lot better now i've seen that table.

I'm with you, now I know it is late but from where I am looking it looks like compared to the number of points the top team has got we are worse off this season compared to the rest.

Hmmmm interesting,

The Luton one actually surprised me a bit, just shows how the start of a season is pretty much not what you would expect at the end of a season.

Cheered me up a bit actually, let's keep going and hope that all this crap in the last few games disappears and we get back to playing the way we all know we are capable of, players and staff!

Exactly - Barnet got off to a flyer which meant they could take the foot off the gas for a fairly long period and drop points regularly after Christmas, but still had the comfort of a 15 point gap on those chasing.

We are now at the stage where we're already hoping for other teams to drop points. 7 games into the season! FGR will have to effectively lose 4 games where we win just for us to catch them. It boils my urine.

So, we started just as badly as other seasons that ended in failure. And here's me thinking we need a change of manager and Hurst has had more than enough chances to do the job he was brought in to do.

OK so we get rid of Hurst now. We then have to pay him off and then find a quality manager who wants to take on our poisoned chalice. Most of the retained squad from last year seemed to suggest that one of their main reasons for staying was because of PH. We lose that goodwill and any manager coming in will be treated with a certain mistrust because the players will wonder if they fit in with his plans. It may be a bold statement but if Hurst goes then IMO you can write off this season. We then have a situation where we are treading water all season with quite possibly having a reduced budget for next.

Poisoned flipping chalice? Give over. Expectations are clear, realistic and more than achievable - promotion.
We're not in League 1 anymore, where the managers' job certiainly was a poisoned chalice as people were expecting championship football but managers were working with League 2 budgets and crowds.

It's certainly not arrogant to suggest that lots of managers would love the opportunity to manage this club right now. Crowds consistently greater than half of those in the division above, a squad of players who would pretty much walk into any other side in the league, a fan base that voluntarily put another 10% on your annual budget & will follow a winning team to the ends of the earth.

People talk about pressure, but town fans are a pretty forgiving bunch in the main - though persistent underperformance isn't tolerated any more here than it is at any other club.

The way this is going I can see another crowdfunder being set up to pay him off and if I witness another Macclesfield type performance next home game I will be waving a £20.

I would certainly call a managers brief of promotion , no ifs or buts, on the back of the previous managers " achievement " of a play-off final as a poisoned chalice. Coupled with a tendency before PH came here of changing managers almost annually I'm sure a lot of capable managers would have been reticent to take on the challenge.
I'm sure lots of managers would love the opportunity to manage our club but how many of those would be capable of getting us promoted? As far as the points you have raised about the increased fan base, the squad of players and the increase in budget by 10%, this has mostly materialised because of the relative success of last season in getting to the final which was done with PH as manager. If we had not got to the final do you honestly believe that the increased season ticket sales, the Operation Promotion and the retention of key players with new quality signings would have happened?

Started off excrement and didn't get promoted.
Hurst out.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Got confused about the number of games we'd played! Obviously doesn't mean anything, but thought it was worthwhile sharing even if only a handful of people found it interesting.

If we had got rid of Woods sooner rather than later we might not even be having the discussions of how to get out of here.

The single most significant contributory factor in our current plight. Had we gone for Slade instead, who was available and wanted the job, we would never have heard of Boreham Wood, Forest Green and the other joke clubs that we now have to try and compete with.
