I don't know about the 60's but it was thought Butlins wanted to come to Cleethorpes in the 1930's but this is a bit of an urban myth. Butlins considered Cleethorpes in the 30's  but eventually chose Skegness but nothing to do with the council at the time , they just thought it was a better option in a cleaner environment.
