Not won for 10 games and barely scored a goal in that period. Fortune who was on trial here scored a penalty tonight in their 3-1 defeat to Maidenhead but we certainly did well to avoid signing him.

All 38 Maidenhead fans were louder than the 3600 Chesterfield fans except for the end when Chesterfield fans vented their frustrations that the players aren't fit to wear the shirt.

Tonights attendance was their lowest league attendance at the Proact Stadium and they are outside the relegation zone by virtue of goal difference. I can't help but think how easily that could have been us.

Martin Allen has a big job on his hands if he can keep hold of it.  His signings don't look fit and he's changing the starting 11 constantly as he tries to find a winning formula.

It all sounds very familiar with what is happening here. He said tonight that before he joined Chesterfield the longest he had gone without a win was 3 games and his win percentage was 47%. He said tonight that the players will not have a day off until they start cutting out the basic errors and winning games.

I hope we can start to pull clear and get some points on the board because if we fall through the trap door, we are in danger of falling further.

Mad Dog trying too hard to live up to his nickname.

Had a couple of good starts to spells at Barnet and once won a promotion at Gillingham but clashed with people, especially players and owners, wherever he has gone. The original fruit loop who buys into and plays up to his self made reputation.

All brought about by a former favourite player wedged in as Manager who was clearly failing badly in the early stages but allowed to continue.

Chaotic, egotistical mismanagement from the top is always behind these stories.

No, Chesterfield have been rotten for a number of years. Back-to-back relegations and struggling at the wrong end again. There problems started long before Jack Lester was appointed. MA was never going to turn them around instantly, but even so the current run of results there is pathetic.

That could still be applied to Town though, the rot goes back some considerable years. Where our sorry little tale seems to differ from those other spiralling downwards basket case clubs is that our (non) Chairman was trying to do his best for his hometown club.
Chesterfield, if I recall correctly were subject to some typical 'out of Towners' moving in with little regard for the club or its fans.

The trouble with Chesterfield is that it is the centre of the country.  They can easily get players to travel daily or move to the local area.  (Irony alert switched on).

They will not be successful unless they are miles from anywhere, like Grimsby, and unable to attract players.  

3600 is still pretty good support after their rotten run. perhaps their fans still have the feel good factor that we all know and love from non league footie

How many teams have had THREE successive relegations. Unilkely as it might be they maybe heading that way if they don't buck their ideas up soon.

I think Bristol City and Wolves may have done quite a while ago but not sure if anyone's gone from League 1 to Confererence North/South in successive seasons.

Luton also had 3 successive relegations (including of course, the infamous -30 points season).

As for League 1 to Conference North, the only club getting close to that 'achievement' that I can think of is Stockport, who managed 3 relegations out of 4.

Not 3 promotions or relegations consecutively though.

On the way up they spent 2 seasons in both Div 3 and Div 2 and on the way down had 2 seasons in Div 3.

They didn't go down to the 4th Division. They went down to the 3rd Division and then went back up to the 2nd Division a few seasons later.

Last season was Martin Allen's first relegation as a manager. And considering how late he took over & how far adrift they were when he arrived, he did a great job to only get relegated on goal difference.

How we managed to stay up was a miracle in the same way that Chesterfield survival would have been a miracle. Michael Nelson looks past it and Jalal in goal was dreadful Tuesday night. He got rounded twice and his error for the third was unforgivable. They have a squad made up of mainly league players who think they just have to turn up.

You can't help look at their current situation and wonder how easily it could have been us.

Does our 4 league demotion count? That was grim, going from playing the likes of Wrexham away to bloody Whitley Bay.

If you're allowing that then Wimbledon went down 7 divisions from the 2nd tier (what is now the Championship) to the Combined Counties League.

It’s a terrible position to be in remember our 1st game  2,200 with about 80 away fans we lost so much support around 2,000 deserted.
It really hit home then how much of a struggle it would be 5 years in fact.

Out of interest Helgy when was the last time your support was anywhere near the current level? I have memories of you not selling out your home end for a lot of the Lincolnshire derbies.

Matters not a jot, their crowds are larger than ours, league positions say their team and manager are more successful than ours, we are poles apart atm, they are going North whilst we are sailing South UTM

Their finances are larger than ours as well, don’t lose sight of that, people say you can’t buy success but it definitely helps if you’ve got money.......... as well as ambition.

Never happened of course and I doubt we will ever get to meet each other at such a high position in the pyramid

Taylor left Lincoln around 76/77ish when we where in the bottom tier.

It was first time Murphy was in charge and I believe ten of that Lincoln team went on to play in the top division for other clubs. Their reserves at that time was also brimming with players who went on to have excellent careers not least our beloved Diddy Gilbert but also Stuart Naylor, Phil Turner (also played for us) Gary Strodder and Wayne Biggins & probably other’s who I have forgotten.

This was the era when their then Chairman, Gilbert Blades, held players meeting & announced they could not afford to get promoted, crazy but definitely happened as I know at least 3 players who were at the meeting.

Recall all this as I was personal friends with Dave Carr, who sadly died of cancer in his forties, so much so he took me to the 1981 PFA dinner, great name for a normal bloke culminating in late drinking session in Tara Hotel Kensington with Joe Waters and Dean Crombie, I knew Dean from his days playing local football for Ruston Bucyrus. Oh to be young again.

Let's revisit that...members and their money came ON to the board, not LEFT the board after another disastrous manoeuvre by the incumbent bunch.

If only! Indeed........ even if we got a windfall the gang of 4 wouldn’t capitalise and drive supporter engagement which credit where credit’s due Lincoln have done that pretty well.
