Following November's exits from both cup competitions Town were now free to focus on the league. The month of December comprised of only three league games which will be detailed below. Our average home attendance from all games now stood at 11421 and Matt Tees continued to lead the scoring charts with 15 goals.

I'm not 100% sure on this as my memory has faded over the years but the name Rob Smith comes to mind. I believe he was formerly at Hull and was only with us for one season.

That Cambridge crowd was their largest ever for a league game until Chelsea went there in the late 1980s and edged us out of the history books.

Some day out it was too. Town fans crammed in the home end in huge numbers. No room to get out to toilets and the terracing was wet and steamy by the time half time had been. Remember someone getting pulled off our coach after the game by the police when one of the United fans who'd been winding the Town fans got lamped for his efforts.

  That Bury game remains vivid in my memory. It was the second Town game I ever attended after the 4-1 victory against Stockport back in September. My dad finally gave in and took me to another game. I can picture those Jimmy Thompson penalties in my mind very clearly even now. He slammed them high and hard down the middle of the goal. This game sealed the deal for me. It's so great to support a team that scores 4 goals every time they play!
