He has been seen as a top-rated talent for some time. Some outstanding performances in a struggling team.  As a 16 year old Man United were quoted as offering £15 million, plus add-ons for him.

Dortmund are very astute at picking the best young talent in Europe, developing them, and then selling them on for a profit.

It's a shame in a way that the World Cup in 18 months is such a farce, given where and when it is, because England have some amazing young talent coming through right now.

Henderson, Chillwell, Gomez, Alexander-Arnold, Foden, Bellingham, Sancho and Rashford all 23 or under all with the potential to become world class. You can potentially add to that the likes of Tomori, James, Mount, Hudson Odoi and Abraham at Chelsea, as well as Rhian Brewster at Liverpool who's already won a World Cup and Golden Boot at U-17 level.

On top of those kids, you've got a number of already world class players in the likes of Sterling and Kane who'll still be in their mid-to-late twenties. I know it feels like we've been here before, but there's some serious young talent about and I've still left off a few names who have the potential to become very, very good players at international level.

Indeed it is a shame, but what's even worse is you need to add another 12 months to your 18.

I think Greenwood could prove to be the best of the lot.

Indeed I do, appalling maths although cut me some slack in that this year so far has already felt like two!

If anything though, it only reinforces the point about just how good that England team could be in, ahem, 30 months time.

I'd say 28 months, so it's nearer than you last thought!

We have talked about "golden generations" before, talented youngsters etc etc....fact is most of them don't reproduce it in an England shirt at a finals, every generation has fallen short, sometimes spectacularly.
Sterling....cracking in a City shirt....where coincidentally he is surrounded by true world class team mates....flatters to deceive in an England shirt.
Pressure, media/press, or not having Silva, De bruyne, Jesus, Aguero etc occupying the opposition as well who knows.
