Really hope it works out for him this season, the more competition for places the better.

Yep, I like Green when you see him interviewed. He wasn't great last season, but the last thing he needs is people on his back. Might not have the turn of pace he once had, but he can still finish.

I just can't see it apart from injuries I can see Green slowly dropping lower and lower down the pecking order until he's sat in the stands. He simply isn't good enough. Even when he was playing well at the start of the season he wasn't really doing much. I always tought he was just unlucky but as the season progressed that changed to either he doesn't care or just wasn't up to the task.

At this level, strikers are rarely clinical but he has it in his locker as we saw against Chelsea. He's not great in the air, he's not got the pace he once had but I'm and around the box in a team that makes chances he will do alright. The experience of Green and Hanson around the place should help the 3 new lads.

This

I think he's already come out and said he was disappointed with his form season just gone and is willing to put in the work to be better this year.
And besides, if we'd have been without him last year we'd never have seen us score at Stamford Bridge

When he first came I thought he was pretty good, then his form suffered like a lot of the teams. I wonder why ? I think Olly will help him get his form back.

Matt always gives 100% so we know if he is called upon he will give his all.

We can not ask for more than that.

I thought he was our best player in the first few games of last season. Outstanding when heavily marked at Walsall. Lost his form later, but he’s certainly not short of ability. Hope he does well this season.

Matt Green has showed he can score goals he was prolific at Mansfield, i think Green and Hanson are going to be really important to Jackson, Gibson and Sisay since all three way down non league there going to need help from the experience of Green and Hanson.

I wasn't slagging Greeny off. Just stating a fact that Ollie has got 3 young, fit, prolific goalscorers in. With their natural goalscoring ability, Ollie wont have bought them in for them to sit on the bench every game. Yes, Green, with his experience will obviously help the 3 young lads, alongside Hanson, but personally I just cant see him being named in the first eleven in a league game this season, bar any injuries. He may get picked in Cup matches but I think that will be all.

It was clearly meant as a joke but people are just far too happy to hit the little red cross.

Do I care? What do you think?

At least 3 people agree with me anyway

His goal versus Port Vale at home was decent.... he’s got a good attitude and clearly wants to do well, hopefully he’ll have a decent season.

Hanson and Green are experienced football league strikers with goal scoring track records at that level. The three new boys are stepping up in class and both Hnason and Green will be important in helping them develop as pros. Hopefully they will all do well, but that is far from certain at this point. There will also be injuries and suspensions. Green could still have a big part to play in our team and has the ability to still do well. That goal at Chelsea was pretty memorable. We have no idea yet what the new players will bring when it counts at League Two level.

I think Green suffered with shape, tactics and approach by former managers, whenever he has played against us in a forward looking striking role attacking the box he has looked a proper handful, most of his games for us he hasnt been used that way, more of a tagret man with his back to goal just in the opposition half.
Give him a role to be running at a back four or running into the box where service is coming in from wide and i think he is a different player altogether.

The thread was unnecessary really.

It was clear we lacked options up front and the manager has done something to address this. Dont really see how the comment about Green was helpful and not really showing much respect or support for one of our players. With fans like that no surprise some players fall short of expectations.

Green didnt set the world alight last season . He has more or less said so himself. I think he lost a bit of confidence personally. But his track record shows he is a decent player and a useful player to have around. He may not have scored loads last season but he showed glimpses of his ability and did score a few cracking goals. Lets get behind him rather than take cheap shots.

I think , along with a few of our attacking players, his form suffered under Jolley. For the good things Jolley did at Town we werent really an expansive attacking force under him. We havent seen the best of Hanson yet either. Hopefully Holloway can get more out of him this coming season . The competition for places should give him an incentive.
