No harm in having a Match Thread.

Town: McKeown, Öhman, Pollock, Waterfall, Preston, Rose, Spokes, Scannell, Wright, Bennett, Green

Subs: Battersby, Idehen, Starbuck, Williams, Morton, Edwards, Touray Sisay.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

flipping hell this "Swanny" bloke is a massive helmet. If I was a Hull supporter i'd be delighted the club had told Radio Humberside to do one just to avoid listening to him moaning his way through every match.

Think McKeown should do more of chasing the linesman for 20 yards waving his arms in the air. Very normal and effective behaviour.

Plenty of time on the ball, do sod all with it. Edge of their box, a minute later back to the keeper, game after game, utterly pointless.  At least get near their goal and shoot otherwise it's pointless.

Nothing different to recent performances then by the sound of it.

Creating very little and missed our best/one opportunity
Looking good in harmless areas of the pitch.
Sloppy at the back.
Lack of quality in all areas according to Swanny.
No attacking threat.

Every time we start with a back three and change it to a back four we seem to improve. Think it might be better to start with a back four.

I agree with Swanny on one point, I think we would look better as a back 4, I know it’s unfashionable these days, but I don’t think we have the wingbacks or fast covering CB for a 3

Scannell, Bennett Spokes Rose all might as well be off the pitch. No creativity no cover no bite. Greens on his own up top, but whoever is up there its the same story. Max is playing with the booking on his mind and preston isnt a wing back. I dont know what to suggest anymore, recruitment has been awful

Could not sum it up any better

Simply put - if we don't find a goalscorer or regular goals then we will be in a  dogfight
I accept Covid and injuries to key players has not helped
But we look so weak in final third whichever group of players line up
Powder puff

Edwards will make a difference but he's not likely to be a goal machine

No bodies in the box
Poor finishing
Creating virtually nothing
Not taking a chance when it comes

I am really disappointed with Ollie so far - I honestly felt he would sort things out
At very least get an Amond-type striker in the club (he came from Morecambe reserves FFS!)

Scannell
Bennett
Green (works hard)
Spokes

Offering very very little

Worrying - even though Hull were Championship team last season

Needs to change quickly - we have a very tough run of games

Same old as most other games this season, only the opposition are better than others we've played and will score more.
Spokes not really in the game but can see why he is a prospect has had a couple neat touches and passes under pressure but not ready for this level yet. Green working hard trying to close 3 players, simple overloading on the flanks again playing 343. Wide players doing nothing and the couple of times we crossed the ball never more than 2 players in the box as we are playing so deep, Also what a difference it makes having a keeper who can actually pass a ball.
Ah well you never know we could do a great comeback.

Havnt been tracking any team or injury news over the last week....is Mohsni injured ?

Given he has been on the bench more often than not and Holloway was bemoaning his general fitness recently,  this game could have been a good opportunity to get him upto speed.

Unless Ollie has bitten the bullett and completely written him off as a poor signing ?

Scannell no impact. Try Sisay?

Another backward throw and still playing three centre halves. At 2-0 down?

I don’t really care that we’re playing a team from the league above. The performance is just the same as against Dagenham. Toothless and players not really bothered. Shades of the Neil Woods team.

Edwards on for Wright.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

Edwards has done more in the last five than the whole team have done in the game.

Ollie has had a week to put things right. Seem to be going backwards instead of improving!
Complete shambles.
One win in 11 games. Some managers would not be allowed to carry on. Not suggesting that Ollie goes but please show us some sign that we may be turning the corner!

Sometimes you post things and you know you are going to get red crossed to death but I'd have Hurst back in a heartbeat. And I wasn't particularly a fan but at least we could score.

Spokes, Scannell, Bennett wtf

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

No real belief in the system from most players. Chose not to start with his better players. Body language poor and wrong shape for second half. Something is seriously wrong. Is there any input from other coaching staff?

I'll take losing to Hull tonight in some cup no one gives two shites about if we can get 3 points on Saturday.

Edwards, Tilley and Clifton all returning, so along with Rose, we should be able to field what's arguably our strongest midfield 4 for the first time this season.

The lack of goals up top is admittedly somewhat concerning at present but you don't have to be Brian Clough to work out that even the best strikers in the world will struggle to score if the service is poor.

Call me mad but I've got a sneaky feeling we'll get a result against Tranmere. Nurse!

I completely forgot we were playing given the competition is a waste of everyone’s time but judging by the comments it’s appears we were awful again?

The result means little in the wider context but the poor performances in any game are worrisome.

I thought we don’t care about this competition.......

In his pre-match moan, Ollie basically said that his priority is the league this year so cup games are not up there in the list of priorities.

I would guess as much that at this moment in time Ollie would rather have a few midweeks free so his players can recover properly rather than running their 'arrises off twice a week every week.

Come on then Ollie how good were we tonight? You must be really pleased with the effort and commitment shown by your team. They looked extremely unlucky not to come away with the win.
Roll on Saturday for another sure-fire 3 points.

We won 1-0 there in the 03/04 pre-season but I think the stadium had been open a few months.

Thanks for that. Knew we had played there and Burns confirmed it was a testimonial game. 😎

My mates office is next to a medical centre in Leeds . He randomly spotted Edwards outside there last week ( getting a scan )  His words “ we’ve got a really good bunch of lads , I’ll be surprised if we don’t make the playoffs “ .
Make of that what you want .

With comments like that i hope he was having his head scanned as he must be seriously concussed.

It's been a shared commentary.

Why though? Hull had their own commentary team, don’t get me wrong, I can’t stand JTs negativity but we should have had another Grimsby commentator too.

We learnt 5 things from tonight - the five players in that team who will never be good enough to pull on a Grimsby town shirt again.  Why they were signed in the first place I will never know. Olly cannot hold his head up after that selection. Time to put the excuse book away and get some matches won or we are going to be in serious trouble.

lost to a team in championship last yr & for 80% of the game you could see the differance in class , just do not come out and say we played well i can't see us scoring enough goals to win many games , find a place in every 11 for williams looks our only creative midfielder!!not ranting tonight because i expected it there top of lge 1 for a reason

Oh for 2 or 3 of our old non league team, I recon Hurst was a better judge of players at this level than Ollie will ever be, with less bull too

If anybody still believes that Olly can get this team performing to a professional standard they are sadly deluded. We may finish at the bottom of the league but hey -ho our bank balance will be in credit

I really don't understand this horror of playing in the Conference There's precious little difference between lower Div 4 where we are now and the Conference (Dagenham proved that the other week)

What is so great about being in the Football League anyway is it just a snobbish thing? Do we regard playing the Conference teams as being below the mighty Grimsby Town? Well it damn well isn't!

Boreham Wood or Harrogate, Wealdstone or Southend where's the difference

One thing is certain if we go bust Grimsby Town (2021) Ltd are going to be playing teams a lot lower than Conference level

Not so. If you paid to watch this game you could take issue with individual comments as 'all views matter'. Your preference to group us 'feckers' in one moaning post means you are in denial. The club's resources are not managed well so too many changes to lineups even allowing for injuries. Tactics and subs are baffling, commentators struggle to be polite about our naivety and the manager is unable to motivate some of his new signings.
The most impressive players are Pollock and Waterfall who were here already and who he is now overplaying. Without them we would be hammered every game.

They made 11 changes though so it is more of a worry than first glance.

Basically most of our first team against their reserves and we could not lay a glove on them.

Think our recruitment is looking shocking this season and how come we are in the middle of November and the team still looks way short of fitness?

I think lack of ability rather than fitness is the most worrying thing closely followed by Holloway kidding himself (and trying to kid us) that he can miraculously change that

Make that 6-0, the Germans faces are a picture.

Their biggest defeat in a competitive game in their history
