Hope I’m wrong, but could Matt be sold in January to generate funds? Either for building or paying loans. Is that why he was not in the squad on Tuesday? We know that Leicester were very keen to get his signature

IH said he was injured.
IH also spoke about January transfer targets during the same post match interview and then resigned 12 hours later.

I think that was probably true at the time. I imagine JSF informed him after the match that he was selling up and IH decided then to resign.

Yep, but when he stated he was injured, I don't think he was leaving the club at that point. Think that happened later that night when JF told him he was selling. I don't think he would have left Pollock out of that game had he been fit.

Even if Pollock wants to stay he won’t be allowed if there’s money to be had for Fenty. He did this to Ryan Bennett who wasn’t ready to leave as his girlfriend at the time was doing a college course. I’m told Fenty practically threw him out the club.

Pollock will go if it’s profitable for Fenty. If he thinks he can get more in the summer he’ll stay. What’s good for the player and club doesn’t come into it.

If we can get £1.5m for him and it pay off JSF's "benign loans" and he then sells his shares, then thanks Matty for everything and hope you make it to the top.

The problem, regardless of who is in charge and who sees the money, is that Pollock is one of our saleable assets.
If an offer comes in that equates to (or more than) our annual turnover then I’m afraid we’ll have to accept.

Of course we will. Part of the model of a youth system is to produce players for the first team, and if good enough, to sell for a profit.

If we sell before the takeover paperwork is signed can Mr Fenty claim the money if Pollock is sold,as he is still the major shareholder.

Of course we will. Part of the model of a youth system is to produce players for the first team, and if good enough, to sell for a profit.
That was the whole ethos of Dario Gradi when he ran the show at Crewe for all those years. Produce one good player a year whose sale could guarantee the clubs survival - job done. Produce a second who could've then strengthen the team. I read an article about him many times years ago where he explained his whole approach to player development and Crewes' survival.

If we sell before the takeover paperwork is signed can Mr Fenty claim the money if Pollock is sold,as he is still the major shareholder.
The agreement is for the consortium to acquire Fenty’s shares and repay his loans. If we receive any money from Pollock or Dembele before then, and the money is used to pay down those loans, the consortium will simply have a lower loans figure to repay.

The other thing the club has to think of apart from the money.
They should not prevent a young players advancement .
If a player can play at a much higher level they should allow him to go.

Possibly a sale and loan back for the remainder of the season? I think he could possibly go straight in at a League 1 side but not yet ready, lMO, for Championship and certainly not Premiership. Mind you playing with better players he might be even better!,,

He will never play with better players than we have now. 😉
However, the chances he has had at BP to rectify and cover for errors made by teammates has been an invaluable development aid.

I always find it tricky to put a value on players, and I think generally speaking fans of the selling club tend to be a little overzealous in their valuations. After all, we’re talking about selling something, someone, we have a kind of emotional attachment to. But interestingly, looking at the list of League Two transfer records, upfront fees tend to be higher for goalkeepers and defenders than forwards which initially seems a little counter intuitive. However, it may simply be that young defenders have a higher success rate in going on to succeed at a higher level than strikers - perhaps they are subject to fewer variables. Ben Godfrey, Ethan Ampadu and Ben Wilmot went for £2.7m, £2.5m and £1.5m respectively. They were each slightly younger than Pollock at the time (18, 16 and 18 ) but also had significantly fewer games under their belts, and no goals to speak of. For Mattie to have 50 professional appearances and 4 goals having only just turned 19 is no mean feat. It could be argued that the aforementioned players were snapped up more quickly as their talent was more apparent, I really don’t know, but figures of between £1m and £2m are by no means laughable. Whenever we decide to sell, it’s important we get a good deal. Invested diligently (unlike Bignot’s mad January) any fee could prove a real springboard for what the new regime want to achieve. The rumoured number I heard for Pollock is ridiculously high. I think £500k is about right. He has potential, but the lack of pace is a huge hole that can never be filled. It will ultimately come down to how many teams are willing to make offers and play them off against each other. Personally, I think Bennett was better, but if the interested clubs are at a higher level then we might get lucky. Spending the money is a lot more difficult. We can't pay transfer fees from the terms of the premier league bailout and we have spent most of our wage cap.

Thought we couldn’t use the money received from the Premiership for transfers but any money raised via a player transfer can surely be used otherwise we are saying that clubs at our level are subject to a transfer ban if fees are involved.

I think the main interest in him is because he can score goals. Considering he is our top scorer, goes to say a lot about our other palyers who are supposed to do just that. A good central defender is much sought after but even more so a good central defender who can score is like gold dust.
We just need him to slot another couple of toe pokes in in the next few games and his price should rise even more.

The value of home talent may go up, when we come out of EU.
Pollock better than some of the donkeys on show in the Premiershit.
We lost out on potential additional revenue, when Bogle went to Wigan, wrong move for both Bogle and GTFC in my opinion
Hopefully still a Mariner after the January transfers.

I wouldn’t say he’s been completely free from criticism. A good prospect but far from worthy of a big transfer yet .
I like Pollock, heart on his sleeve etc., but the one thing he seriously lacks which is so important in today’s game is pace. The old adage about “positional sense makes up for that” only goes so far at the top level today. For the more senior amongst us, it reminds me of the Handyside scenario, a fantastic player for Town, and though he moved on to Stoke (I think?) if he had been quicker he could’ve played at the top level for many years. For this reason I struggle to see Matty playing above championship level (which of course is still fantastic for him ) so I’d take £500k + a sell on % tomorrow

He’s still got plenty of development ahead of him and saying what he’s worth or what level he’ll be able to play at is a bit premature to say the least.
If the club get a decent 6 figure offer for him then it’s job done and another tick in the book for Woodsey and the structure.

Anything over £500k should be accepted. Anything over £1mil should be hands snapped off.
£500k with some add-ons and clauses I would be delighted with.
Pollock is one of our better players at the minute but that unfortunately is not a very hard fete.
In my opinion we have a better prospect in Idehen.
He's alot more athletic, which is vital in today's game and with the right coaching and attitude, could become a priceless asset for us.

I'd build my team around him as captain, we've had some excellent defenders that lacked pace in my 45 years of supporting,

Think it was Macca ( John) who said the other week he sees Pollock reading the game pretty well which is equivalent to the first couple of yards in a game, he said Futch didnt get done for pace that often as he read the game so well. He acknowledged the game has changed but still saw Pollock as a Championship defender.

Handyside now there's a player, Rolls Royce of a centreback, as you say everything but pace, I was still surprised he didn't make the step up to the Premiership. Christ we used to have quality players.

Pollock can deliver a good long pass too. Not just a hulking hoof merchant.
But I agree with Pen Penfras in that Bennett was better, though markets change and we might end up getting more for him.

The thing I like about the lad is his feet seemingly are flat on the ground and doesn’t get fazed by any speculation about his future. He turned down the opportunity to train with top flight clubs during the summer and undoubtedly has a bright future ahead of him.
It’s not always a case of selling the golden egg but seeing what hatches. The lad is learning his trade still and with some decent coaching will develop even further. And we now have a manager and assistant that can actually do some training with the players and not focused on boardroom activity and the £££££

His pace can be improved; he could shed a few pounds and could be coached about how he moves over the first 5 yards or so - a centre half doesn't often have to chase players for very long, it's more often about the striker's position and how they accelerate. His starting position is crucial (how he reads the game) and he seems to have that already.
A big test for him at a higher level is how he deals with strikers who have strength, speed and skill. He's really only used to playing against strikers with the first 2. He'll be found out if he can't deal with a striker who turns him, accelerates quickly, holds the ball close and gets an early shot off (those strikers exist, we just haven't seen one for a long time).

I’m not sure Dario Gradi is the best person to be aspiring to to be honest looking at what went on behind the scenes at Crewe’s youth set up

He doesn’t look like a rookie when he’s playing, he’s probably the best player in the squad and has managed 50 games at 19 even with the Covid break.
He’s totally dominant in the air, has developed really well on the ball and has an excellent attitude. His lack of pace shouldn’t hold him back greatly as he’s such a good reader of the game. He’s your Harry Maguire style centre half. I’d like to see his contract extended but I expect him to leave for well over a million.

I’ve said it before but pace isn’t everything at centre half. If they can read the game well enough and have positional sense then they’ll find themselves in the right place more times than not. Often you see a centre half with pace sprinting back to win a recovery challenge, but what’s not seen is that they’d got themselves in the wrong position to begin with. For me, Mattie has the positioning and reads the game like a 35 year old veteran. Sky’s the limit in my opinion.

Think it is enviable that Pollock will be sold. All I ask for is that we learn from previous mistakes. I want to see him loaned back till then end of the season. A decent sell of fee, an international clause, a friendly and a potentially ask for another loanee to come.

Like Pollock. Obviously the player should have a say, but given where we are in the league, I would try and resist any sale at this stage
Just reminds me of us selling Bennett, and getting relegated 5 months later

Wolves paid an initial £1M for Luke Matheson from Rochdale last January. We should be looking for a similar fee plus the usual add-ons & sell-on fees for Pollock.

If we can sell him with a loan back clause, I think it’s a no brainier. The money could go a long way and any extra funds for this transfer window will be welcomed.

Not sure about that. If we sell him this month, the ideal situation would be to replace him with a good centre back who will be important for us this season and in the seasons that follow. If we loan him back we are just developing another clubs player for them.

We r desperate to stay up this season and give the consortium and new ground plans the best possible start, if we keep him on loan then that is helping that. That's more important than possible better development for a theoretical player

Good young player. One of our best players at present in a very poor squad. With 3 Premier League teams reported to be interested and no doubt Championship and L1 as well we should cash in now.
PL teams spend 1 to 2M on young players without a a second thought. For me despite his qualities as others have said he lacks a bit of pace to play at the very top.
I would take a seven fgure now and reinvest in the team.

What he said ⬆️ When we were relegated under Laws/Swain in the 96/97 season we were woefully short but had one shining asset in John Oster who's sale to Everton provided Buckley Mark II with a decent warchest to rebuild, allowing him to bring Donovan, Groves et al in. We're in a corner now so I think we'd be mad not to accept a million for Matty as that could fund the purchase of the four quality players (minimum) we need to avoid the dreaded drop.

We got a fair bit for Mendonca too. £700k? Plus the million and a half for Oster as you say.

Good point KM. Forgot we sold Clive that same summer for decent wonga. In an ideal world I'd like to hang on to Matty (along with only four or five other current players) as his stock is only likely to rise but I'm not sure if we can afford to turn down a million for much needed improvements to the playing squad, which needs to be done asap.

Needs to keep his head down, ignore OTT threads like this one and concentrate on the next game. He has been one of few highlights this season but we do him no favours with social media hype. Even if we get offers at 1 mill plus we stand little chance of using that cash in a January window. Signing goal scorers or a CB to replace him will be really hard in our current plight. Way too much expectation for this window.

I know what you’re saying Croxton but money talks, Crawley, Fleetwood, Forest Green & Salford are perfect examples that players will sign if the money is right. To be fair that’s not the approach Hurst is likely to adopt but over the years there will be many examples of players following the cash.

True enough, Lincoln Mariner. I just think some fans are unnecessarily conflating the sale of Mattie with our need for a couple of strikers. I wonder if we would accept a striker as a part swap deal plus cash. You've got me at it now!

For his own sake he should probably go now. The areas of his game he’ll need to improve to make it at the top level - his passing, improving his athleticism, defending against better players - won’t improve playing on ploughed fields through winter in a L2 relegation scrap.
6/7 months in a top-level academy, with proper s&c facilities, would bring him on much more than slogging his balderdash off and potentially getting relegated or injured with us.
We also need a pacier CB to partner one of him or Waterfall, as they’re too similar in style and don’t necessarily complement each other.

True enough, Lincoln Mariner. I just think some fans are unnecessarily conflating the sale of Mattie with our need for a couple of strikers. I wonder if we would accept a striker as a part swap deal plus cash. You've got me at it now!
I would be more than happy if Wolves would take Mattie and do a swap deal, say give us one million and Raul Jimenez when he's back playing again.
