Hurst said ideally he wants to work with 20 or so. So what will his squad be?

GK: Eastwood, McKeown & Battersby
RB: Hendrie & Hewitt
LB: Habergham, Bunney & Hope
CB: Menayese, Pollock, Waterfall & Idehen
RM: Adams, Morais & Starbuck
LM: Wright & Scannell
CM: Coke, Matete, El-Mizouni, Clifton & Spokes
CF: Payne, Hanson, John-Lewis & Jackson jr.

That's 21 seniors & 5 younger players making up the numbers. Scannell is probably the luckiest to make that list. And that would leave the following as surplus to requirements...

Sam Russell (goalkeeper coach only)
Danny Rose
Jock Curran
Cameron Painter
George Williams
Kyle Bennett
Montel Gibson
Matt Green
Alhagi Touray Sisay

Don't you have to have a couple of "homegrown" players on the bench

You need 1 player in your 18. Matt Pollock would qualify.

Think its 2 you need. It was 1 in the first season it was introduced. Then 2 players from the 18 from the second season onwards.

I’m not sure, but Salford don’t have an academy and they still name a squad of 18 each game.

Assuming Coke happens, that's 10 inbound signings in a January window, and not a single one has been met with a consensus that it wasn't needed. That's a sad indictment of the legacy Ian Holloway left behind; that he has now comfortably outshone Mike Newell for gross incompetence and done so with even less moral fibre is honestly quite remarkable.

To be fair to Newell’s team they played quite well when you consider their alcohol intake.

What’s Holloway’s squad’s excuse. Too tired for all the darts?

An old mate of mine used to run The Owl pub in the Rodley area of Leeds (I'm sure one or two on here will know it), which happened to be Conlon's local at the time. He actually got me a signed beer mat, long since thrown into the bin.

Some of the stories I cannot and will not repeat on here for both Rob's sake and mine, but well, yeah, use your imagination...

It's kind of worrying when you think that the likes of Sweeney and Proudlock managed twice as many or more goals on a diet of Fosters and cheesy chips than our current top scorers have while actually attempting to be professional footballers.
