When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

In my experience, whatever his size would usually be, go up 2.

I am of the larger variety though so not sure if that would be the same if you go to the smaller sizes

This story reminds me of the time a few years ago, when I went into Tesco to buy a shirt.
I wanted an extra large, but on the rack of the one I liked were just medium and XXXL. So I went up to the counter and asked if they had any more sizes and the young lady asked what was on the rack?

So I said medium and XXXL and she replied, "I'm sorry sir, XXXL is the biggest size we stock."

I don't have to go to Tesco to get insulted.

To answer the OP, they are very small in size right through so go bigger, if on the large size go 5xl to be certain.

Yes, as said above, at least one and maybe 2 up from what you think you are, particularly  if you like a more “relaxed” fit

Something similar happened to me. I said "I don't come here to be insulted!"

Cheeky cow said, "Where do you normally go?"

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.
