We do play better, but normally only for 45 minutes.

Hendrie, Hewitt, Hanson, and Morais are among the better performers and they were all here when Hurst arrived. Wright and Clifton too. So Hurst had a foundation. He just needed to make four or five astute signings to bolster the squad that was already clear of the relegation places.

Incredibly he has taken us down to rock bottom with 6 points from 12 games. Now relegation is almost certain. It need not have been this way.

It's not over until the fat lady sings, however I just don't think it's feasible. Since we returned to the league, the average points required to survive has been 45 (discounting last year's curtailed season). Currently, based on PPG both Barrow and Port Vale are set to hit 46 points, so that seems a reasonable ball park to aim for.

Even if we use the slightly lower figure of 45 as a benchmark, that means picking up another 19 points from 13 games - 1.46PPG. That's compared to the 0.79 we've managed across the entire season, and the 0.5 we've achieved in Hurst's time back a the club, in spite of some anecdotal yet intangible signs of improvement.

To add to the challenge, of the 13 games we have remaining, 6 are against sides in the current top 10 and 5 against sides currently in play-off or promotion positions.

I'm trying to get my head around the idea now so it hurts less when it finally happens. Stranger things have happened in football but the probability of us surviving is very, very low.

I know it's the same for everybody but I think there's even less chance of it happening with no fans behind them, we could've at least done with that to possibly give us a point or two extra.

I've a feeling the 0-0 draws with Southend and Colchester, along with the Stevenage debacle, would've been different with fans behind them.

If the fans were there we wouldn't be in this mess. Why, because the useless sh!tes on the pitch would have been told what was thought of them. Their attitude would have changed straight away and wouldn't have dished out such utter rubbish consistently over the last 12 games.

Things have only got slightly, and I mean slightly, better on the pitch because they couldn't get any worse.

So your point is that changing manager for Newport and Barrow worked, so we shouldn't change manager?

Defensively, we are better. We could hardly be worse. Hurst has done the right thing by tightening up at the back as we were shipping loads of goals. Perhaps that has come at the expense of our attack. He needs to adjust that balance as we need the three points, one points here and there an no good to us.

We were the lowest scorers in the league under Holloway when he left.
