Having watched the Cheltenham v Tranmere highlights, it’s clear that the long throw is a huge part of Cheltenham’s game. Surely, the best way of combating it is to make sure that if the ball really does have to be played into touch, it as far upfield as possible. Mind you, I’ll not be holding my breath on this one. Town rarely do the obvious. Over the years , I’ve seen us hardly have a shot on goal after our opponents have had to sub their goalkeeper with an outfield player, and hoof the ball forward repeatedly when we’ve had a gale force wind at our backs!

Seems to be the option  most L2 teams use now shame our long throw is the same as most teams short throw

Presumably they always try to clear it as far up the pitch as possible, regardless of whether the opposition have a long throw or not.

Who was it famously kicked the ball out for a corner when it was going for a throw in? It was against Stoke City and Rory Delap with his throws.

I don’t think they do though. They often run it into touch immediately adjacent to where they are. My point is that they should always look to play it as far down the line as possible, rugby-style. I appreciate that this isn’t always possible, but today they need to be mindful of the fact that every throw down towards our end will be better than a corner because the guy who takes them achieves tremendous accuracy as well as distance.

Big responsibility on Maccas shoulders today, we know Cheltenham can throw the ball into our box from just about anywhere in our half, so Macca needs to be positive and take some of the pressure off the back 4, I know from personal experience how difficult  predicting long throws is, they come in with all sorts of trajectories and it will be very awkward in today's strong wind, but come on Macca, now's the time to prove some of your doubters wrong.

Waterfall in today presumably to counteract the threat. Three at the back - a system I’ve rarely seen work for Town over the years.

Time will tell. We can’t afford to get this wrong.

Got away with it today, yes they got one , but easily could have had 3/4 from their throw ins.

So frustrating that we didnt seem to complain when they stole yards and yards to take the throw in from a more favourable position or when Tozer opened the gates to go into the stand....

or like some said roll the covers up and put them up alongside these areas of the pitch.

I’d be happy with some players that can kick straight first , never mind throw

They should stop it by putting boards closer to the pitch and the covers to stop the run up. Regulations only apply to the pitch. If you stop the momentum of the thrower it reduces the length of throw

I noticed we kindly left a couple of gates open to give him a better run up too.

I would assume leaving the gates open is a health and safety aspect, but if things were normal and there had been a crowd in then the gates would have at least been closed. Something else we can blame on Fenty and the conservatives!!!

stand a player near the touch line where the opponent is throwing, he,ll have to stop short then, and possibly put him off with the momentum
