I would imagine Grimsby Live's live updates feature might get a record amount of viewers!

Team news: Eastwood in, five changes
Five changes for the Mariners this afternoon - the biggest one sees Jake Eastwood replace James McKeown.

Meanwhile, Luke Hendrie and Sean Scannell return, while Ira Jackson Jr and Sam Habergham start.

TOWN: Eastwood, Hendrie, Hewitt, Menayese, Habergham, Scannell, Coke, Clifton, Khouri, Green, Jackson Jr.

Subs: McKeown, Waterfall, Pollock, Spokes, Lamy, Adlard, John-Lewis.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

Unless he's planning on signing Eastwood I don't see the point in him playing and not Macca?

Hurst is probably playing the players that will be here next year. Good to see Jackson Jr given a start.

Scannell? Hope not. No way that guys deserves to be here next year. How much has he been paid so far for a handful of games and no significant performances?

It's much easier to sell him if he's put in the shop window, hence him needing to play some games.

LJL needs a rest, I would guess he will come on sometime though.

maybe there's an element of resting Macca & Shop, whilst Spokes ,as a young player, might need a break. Also gives scannell a chance to play that Matete type role. if we've got him contracted for next year we might as well give him a chance

ps 1 good thing i heard on hurst pre match is that Wright is going to be given some individual help/advice/coaching on injury prevention. We haven't heard anything like that before

Macca - emotional drained I'd think...given a rest
Shop - given his all and deserves a rest
Scannell - as far as squad Hurst has to work with the obvious choice (and might be 'see how much you care')
Ira - grab your chance

So no complaints from me

Interesting comment, far more effective than any striker we have had in the last couple of years, we will see the big difference it makes today without him on the pitch.

Leaves the top scorer spot wide open with that team selection

Ira's on 3 and Lenell on 4

Plus Matty P on the bench on 3

The honour is up for grabs

To be fair to Ira thats not bad considering he hasnt played that much. I remember when he scored his debut goal for us and the delight for him and his family especially his brother on twitter. I suppose any true fan would be over the moon to score for Grimsby though if we had the ability

JT, "3 coming in at the far side", wrong, only 1. He often miscounts the number of players in a particular incident.

Good news (if true) about support for Max.   I think that he is has a lot to give next season.  We need his pace  and skills.  He is Town through and through.  After bad injuries many players come back even mentally stronger.

The pitch hasn't fully recovered has it from the club furloughing the groundsman.

15 mins gone and nothing exciting, they look what they are relegated and nothing to prove. Defence not looking as composed as they have been over the last few weeks and nothing in attack, again.

JT  what's Fenty left behind?   Any comments?

Plenty of memories both good and bad.

Bogle's pair at Wembley, The 2-0 home win against Morecambe, first match back in the league.
Too many relegations without enough promotions.
Too many managers who are mostly clueless.

Wonder if anything will change under new ownership?
Or will it quickly become Status Quo and chugging along like a little steam train?

Strange feeling to be sitting here with a game in progress without the incredible combination of tension, dread and hope running through your brain, praying for a goal. The first stress free match day this season.

Great save by Eastwood there.

Looks a bad one on Eastwood there - took a knee right to the skull. Think that'll be his day over unfortunately.

Peterborough score a 6th minute injury time leveller after being 0-3 down to Lincoln, full time 3-3.

Peterborough promoted, Lincoln have to settle for the lottery of the play-offs

Just think if it wasn't for Declan Bourne and that dodgy ref against Exeter we'd now be on 49 points and out the relegation. Despite what has gone on off the field, Hurst would have got us out of it if it wasn't for scarily inept refs

Well technially we'd be on 48 (we still got a point against Salford) but yeah we'd still be in the hunt.

Sad to think about it really.

One more game left in a season of “if only” no consolation at all but the lads did shows some pride.

I know he’s 35 (I think) but we need to get Coke signed for next season.

There’s loads of reasons we got relegated, and plenty of people to blame, but refs ain’t one of them.

1-0 f.t. lots of positive defensive things, good attitude and desire from the players, lots of energy.
Sums up what we know - Hurst has managed to get a good group spirit from his small squad of hard working committed players. He has got us organised defensively but we need a whole new offensive/creative unit.

Coke motm (can he do a full conference season at 35/36 must be the big question?)
Clifton, Menayese & Hewitt not far behind. Good little cameo from Pollock - could he be part of abck 3 next season?

It's always the ref's fault at this club, I'm sure other clubs have dodgy decisions go against them most weeks.

Why can't you just accept that we have been sh1t for most of the season.

You finish where you deserve to finish !

Well, we won and that's all you can really say. Scannell didn't do enough for me to stay, he huffed and puffed but that was it. Green seems to be getting better and scored again so I'd keep him.

I thought Khouri had a poor game today and struggled, also Jackson wasn't that good for the full 90 mins. Pollock did ok when he came on and the usual performance from Hewitt, Hendrie, Menayese, and Habs.

I think the Exeter game took a lot out of all of them mentally and physically and it showed. But hey a win is a win so it's a good result. Just a shame it too late to mean anything.

A kind of symmetry to our five year spell in the EFL I suppose with this final home game and win

August 2016 to May 2021

A victory in the sunshine and a clean sheet but it feels kind of hollow

But.... who knows where we might be five years from now under Stockdale & Pettit

Championship anyone?

Port Vale fans scathing about the ref today and my spurs supporting mate is permanently scathing about referees. Moral of the story is they're human and make mistakes but over a season it probably balances out

I've never been a Green fan, see my previous posts, but one thing happened in the last 2 games, he scored because he was in the right place doing the right things. I'm not going to rave about the rest of his time on the pitch but at the end of the day if it's Green or somebody else I'm quite willing to see them do sweet f/a all game but score.

You do have to laugh at this ridiculous scenario.
Just accept officials make mistakes and move on.
Unless you'd like to see VAR in the lower leagues which will introduce more dubious decisions to discuss.

What I tried to emphasise was it doesn't matter if it Green or A N OTHER I'm not bothered but what we haven't had all season is a goal scorer.

So if  A N OTHER  does sweet FA all game but puts the ball in the net then I'm happy.

I do not wish to sound disrespectful to our Site Publisher in any way as I know you do a fantastic job. I do hope that when you do the player ratings for this (Vale) game that you do not include Louis Boyd 34.

Unfortunately, he was included in both the Exeter and Oldham rating and didn't play, nor sub, in neither; likewise he was not involved in any way in the vale game.

Green was a very good striker who used his pace to play off the shouder of the centre backs and was a decent finisher. That's why he's had a very good career and scored a lot of goals. Now he is in his mid thirties and has lost that yard of pace he is less effective and a new contract would be a bad idea. Giving him a 2 year contract on a good whack was a mistake but that decision wasn't his and it doesn't make him lazy or excrement or mean he has robbed a wage.

Strange how PH has sung his praises about his attitude and commitment in training. Clearly his legs have gone and he hasn't been able to adapt his play. Does that make him lazy, excrement, robbing a wage etc. Not in my opinion.

Still managed a couple in the last few games.

Can I preempt any criticism by saying it was a mistake to give him a 2 year deal and no I wouldn't have him here next season.

I’m not convinced Green is either a wage stealer or lazy, I just think he’s done. He’s finished. He’s chipped in with a few goals, no where near enough though.

I get the impression he’s actually a good professional and from what PH has said, he seems to be a good bloke to have around but it is time for him to move on. I don’t blame Green for a two year deal, fair play to him for getting one.

Is it frustrating when he plays; almost 100% of the time it is but wage stealer is harsh when we’ve the likes of Scannell at the club...

Any of you thinking green isn't lazy, watch his games against his ex clubs. I know players often give that little bit extra against previous clubs, which is fair enough, but green is completely transformed, his physical contribution is upped dramatically. That is what he has the physical capability to do if he can be arsed. 98% of the time he can't be.

The effort he puts in is a box ticking effort, he does just enough to appear to be trying.

Even when he does try though he is still utterly excrement, he doesn't actually play well against these old clubs, its just the effort level that changes.

Agreed, I have seen a large proportion of the games that Green has played for us. I do not in anyway believe he is lazy or does not try. Equally he is nowhere near one of the worst strikers that we have ever had. Nevertheless he is no longer effective and his race is run utm

Green was a good lower league striker in his younger days. He no longer is and after the next game, he will be an ex player. Another we signed too late in his career.

We need to be finding players that are improving and attracting the attention of clubs above us, mixed in with a few who are at the top of their game in experience. Only then will we have any success on the pitch.
