Looks like he might make it back to fitness soon. What do people think we should expect from him?
Ryan Taylor has shown that an experienced pro can add loads of value to the team, but equally we've had the likes of Matt Green who have contributed very little. What might we get from Grant?

Given that every single summer signing has been good so far, there's no reason why he won't be the same

Have the club said anything? I really want to see him in the squad, we really need him to give us an extra option up front.

Agreed we didn’t get much from Matt Green but he was playing in a team that we didn’t get much from. Apparently he’s banging the goals in this season .

A striker is only ever as good as the service he gets. This year we have some decent providers wide and in midfield so a half decent striker will get chances.

In Northern Ireland....That's like being a star striker in the Welsh league.

Sisay and Robles are prolific over in Wales. Both looked like half time raffle winners in their time here.

That's a bit of a sweeping statement. You could have a striker being provided with loads of gilt edged chances and not sticking them away.

He scored 12 in 17 for Hereford, his last club before here, so probably very well.

I've pointed out Shops recent goalscoring record is not too shabby at his previous club which is a level similar to Wales or Ireland, if not better.

Doh! I was talking geographically but never mind, (too deep for you obviously.) I think Hereford are one league below us I don't know how that compares to NIFL Premiership (Linfield) and Cymru Premier (the other two)

Plymouth fans spoke very highly of Grant in the summer and said he would ‘tear up this league’ and various other words to the same effect. Great pedigree. Been out ages so could take several weeks for him to come into his own (assuming no further injury setback) but promises much and I agree….all of Hurst’s summer signings have shown themselves to be astute decisions.

I knew what you meant, no need for the baiting/abuse. I was explaining to you with why I said what I said as you didn't seem to respond to me posting facts about Shops recentish goalscoring feats. Didn't really suit your angle did it, bless.

I certainly think describing LJL's 'recentish' goalscoring as 'feats' is stretching it a bit

Looking at Grants career record and the high regard he seems to have been held in at previous clubs he probably has the best pedigree of any of the summer signings. If he is fit enough and he has been training for a few weeks now I see no reason why he can’t play in the Mcatee role but that still leaves us needing another number 9.

My expectations of Grant have been zero, based on the only 45min glimpse of him in that Rotherham (?) Pre season friendly and the fact he sunk without a trace at half time.
It's now November and we still havnt seen him other than in photos or videos, usually stood next to Scannel, his treatment room buddy.
I just don't see him figuring or featuring at all, should he return he won't be match fit, and given the length of lay off and age I can envisage a stop start niggly injury remainder of the season.
We need his type back to bolster the attacking options and I hope he does return and does exactly that.. along with Scannel ...but I just don't see it happening.
Hope to be proved wrong.

A bit pessimistic on someone with nearly 500 career games . Thirty Four year olds do get injured and have longer out but if you can get 25 games out of a quality older player at this level it’s well worthwhile . I am sure Hurst would have taken his fitness / injury record into account before bringing him in. Taylor may be no different by the time we reach season end. Scannell has a more persistent track record of time out and isn’t a Hurst signing

Yep, perfectly rational responses here. 2 x 45 min appearances in July friendlies vs League One and Northern Premier Division One East opposition is pretty much the optimum gauge of a player's ability.

Yes they are completely rational, he didn't impress either of us during his brief appearances during preseason. Not everything has to be happy clapper friendly (Maybe Rob should create a Happy Clapper safe space hmmmm) we can say say negative things about players/club/staff where its applicable. I even said at the end of my comment "I hope this was just because it was preseason"

If the Happy Clapper safe space is away from those that are frothing at the mouth because a new signing didn't bang a hattrick in in the first four minutes of pre-season then sign me up.

We're hardly frothing at the mouth. We both just said he hadn't impressed in the short time when we saw him, say in coomparison to Essell who I only saw for about 10 mins in total preseason who did impress me, you know offering a different view in a conversation on a chat board. After all if we all had the same view there'd be nothing to chat about and no need for the fishy. Just another over reaction by the happy clappers to the tiniest thing that isn't completely, totally, wholly and thoroughly positive.

It's got f uck all to do with how positive/negative I am or you are as a fan. You're writing off a player based off matches that are purely meant for getting the squad back up to fitness. Not even the later ones that give more of an indication of preferred lineups and tactics but the very first ones when they've come back from a rest period having not kicked a ball for a few months.

Everyone wrote off Waterfall before the season started.
As someone pointed out, Grant isn't a striker. He's more of a No10, just like McAtee in fact, so hopefully he can fill that role while he's out injured.
Hurst said in one of his interviews that you could see the quality Grant has with his touch and technique in training.

Makes Taylors record look even worse then doesn't it
Perhaps yet we know that Taylor is a fantastic player for us and has been instrumental to our good start to the season. So if Grant outscored him when not even playing as an out and out striker, why would that not make for "pretty reading"?

I am not writing anyone off based on a brief pre season showing.....I am however concerned that its November and we havnt even seen him in the matchday squad yet despite us now looking very short in his dept. None of us know what he will be capable of as none of us have seen him yet....so I dont get where people think he will suddenly be starting , scoring and the answer to our front line woes.

If Hurst signed him now instead of at the start of the season I reckon everyone would be excited about it. Cos he’s been out injured people have a downer on him. I think like 95% of PH signings we’ll be saying what a great addition to the squad he is. When we signed him in the summer he was the one I was most excited about. Genuinely think once fit, if he stays fit he’ll be brill

I would happily sign up to a "happy clapper" page if it meant I didn't have to read your drivel. I welcome opposing views that are based on reasoned arguments. Yours are not and I strongly suggest that you start reading through yours before you post.

Really looking forward to Grant getting fit and showing us what hes got,hes been a class act for his other teams, writing him off after 30mins in early pre season games is laughable, i believe he could be the extra ingredient we need to push on big time,UTFM

One for the time capsule this, let's revisit at the end of the season and hopefully you are proved right.

I'm not writing him off at all, "I'm not expecting much to be honest the few bits we have seen of him preseason left me very underwhelmed if I'm honest, I'm hoping that was just because it was preseason of course". Tell me there where I'm writing him off. I was left underwhelmed by his preseason performances and I'm hoping that was just because it was preseason. I'm clearly not writing him off, I'm hoping he proves my early judgement wrong.

From the interview - looks like he is on the bench, but not a starter tomorrow.
7 on the bench again in the cup, so a bit more choice for subbing !
Hope he gets on and does ok !!

With seven subs surely he should start and have a decent run. He can always come off.

Nobody can really comment because we haven’t seen him…he’ll either stay fit and be half decent or he’ll get a knock and just take his money…
Not sure I’ll get excited about him just yet…

Doubt very much he will start. Doubt he'll get any game time unless we are comfortable in the game and that is far from certain. They look to be in good form.
Think PH will play a strong side to try and get back to winning.

I agree. I think it will be a tough game. I think PH will be taking it seriously and he's desperate to get back to the winning habit. I reckon he really wanted a mid week game to give us chance to bounce back.
