Must have been about 1980 but there was another horse called Grimsby Town. Word got round that it was running at Kelso with another locally owned horse called Pottersville, and that the owners had chartered a plane, such was the confidence they were going to win.
Loads of people I worked with piled in and the pair duly obliged at 6/4 and 10/1 if my memory serves me correctly
When I went to collect, the bloke behind the counter at the bookies in Cleethorpes looked on the verge of tears!

Going to watch this race with intetest, he is with a top Irish stable and if he turns out to be decent it will be.nice to  get some much needed publicity for the club and Town,  instead of all the negative stuff we  usually have to suffer.

Go on Grimsby Town!

Let's hope the nag's form is better than it's namesake's!

still, I've put this month's mortgage on it - what could possibly go wrong?

UPDATE - came from stone cold last to finish a close second (if only the team could follow suit!)

Placed after a fast finish - hopefully a metaphor for our season.

Slowly away and seemed to be outpaced at first but finished well and did well to place, only first ever race but it seems to have some potential.

A late run to finish third by Grimsby Town sounds like a very good outcome to me...let's get started on Saturday...

I'm sure Findus will take him, if he turns out to be a poor runner.

They end up here in Melton Mowbray, no not in the pies (I hope)...Pedigree Petfoods always have demands for them...

About 25years ago there was a horse called Up The Mariner that may have been trained locally. I remember seeing it win at Southwell at about 5 or 6/1. I don't remember it pulling up any trees. Think there was a stablemate called Up The Iron although I obviously paid that no attention!
